Amazing Aztec Large Jade Mask Axe? Ancient Artifact Pre-Columbian NR
Hi I have an incredible artifact that was found in Aztec ruins in the 1950's. This awesome green stone mask looks like it might have doubled for a ceremonial axe. There's a tag on the back that says Found in Aztec ruins. This artifact looks much older than Aztec. The Aztecs were known for collecting artifacts of other cultures. And in some cases inhabiting cities of other people. I'm not sure if this is jade, serpentine, or a similar looking stone. It is obviously ancient. I had always wanted to have a professional mount made for this. This awesome stone artifact could be a center piece for any collection. This is a very heavy and large artifact. It came from the estate of an old collector and traveler. There was no further paperwork saying which ruin it was found in. It would have been nice if they had written that on the tag ... morealso. Rarely do you ever see a hat on a Mezcala figure, let alone a round one like this. That's one of the reasons I acquired this many years ago from an old collection. Fabulous items that are beyond"vintage" Real ANTIQUITIES! These items are from the EXTREME NORTHERN CALIFORNIA COASTAL REGION. The listing is for a MORTAR AND PESTLE RIVER ROCK GRINDING BOWL, and it comes with Two Pestles. Each Pestle is of the same material as the Mortar and both came with the Mortar as well-each Pestle looks to have served as different grinding functions. The River Rock was at one time a Very Large"Round Rock. This"Bowl" has history and personality! It is somewhat"crude" But it is also somewhat"smooth"definitely Not"smooth" in the factory sense of the term or composition. There are a couple of large areas where the outer layer has broken off, which is shown in the photos. This just exposes the underlying layer of rock, which really accents the age and history of the ... morepiece. It does Not make the Mortar less"fragile. This Mortar is so heavy and solid, one may need a good sledgehammer just to get at this piece! If it is dropped, watch your foot! The"rim" of the Mortar is"smooth" and uneven.you can rest either of the Pestle's on the"grooves. The inside of the Mortar has been"scooped" out, obviously for"grinding. It is"smooth" from usage, and you can see all of the natural formation and texture of the rock. Please look at the many photos provided that offer an excellent look of the entire Mortar, including the Mortar upside down. The Mortar sits nicely. It is 6 1/2" high at its lowest side and 8" at its highest. The Mortar ranges from 7" to 8" across at different areas; the inside of the Mortar has an approx. 11" depth going down and across. And is approx. 4" deep. The Mortar is 29" around at the center; it is solid and thick. The smaller Pestle is a"ring" type tool. This auction is for a nice Morse Blade/ K nife that came from a large collection I Just bought from Lampasas Co. TX. It is 7-1/4" long x 2-1/2" wide. And made from a beautiful Pink, heavily-included& patinated chert. This is a sweet. Fantastically-made Morse Blade that was reportedly found in Lincoln Co. Mo. I inspected it with a 30x and a 60x lens. And feel It has enough mineralization to easily support antiquity. BUT. we have no providence or information on this blade other than a sticker stating it came from Lincoln Co. so unfortunately I have to inform all potential buyers that. it could very well be a reproduction! This beautiful Morse has Perfect Form! ... moreKiller material and Absolutely Beautiful Transverse& Pressure Flaking Throughout the Blade on both sides! It has Well-Ground Hafting Edges. But the type-correct constricted Basal Edge may have been broken in antiquity, exposing the rind. No Hinges! No Stacks! No Signs of Machine Polishing! This is an Imposing and Beautiful Artifact. I purchased this several years ago from the Howard Nowes Ancient Art Gallery in New York. This effigy figural whistle, is of a Mayan Dignitary wearing a broad headdress, ear spools, and a pectoral. There are ample mineral deposits. The whistle is at the back lower base of the figure, and still sounds great. It about 5" tall.
