A small Costa Rican"Castillo Incised" blackware tripod rattle-leg vessel dating to the Late Period. Ca. 1200- 1500 AD. The exterior side and interior rim are nicely incised with complex geometric patterns. The vessel sits atop three hollow cone shaped legs each containing a terracotta rattle ball. Pre Columbian West Mexican Polychrome Olla This is an polychrome olla. Or round vessel for liquids, that comes from the shaft tomb cultures of West Mexico(Jalisco, Nayarit, and Colima) and that dates to around 300 B.C. to 400 A.D. This olla has an orange-red slip and on it are white lines creating four panels, one of which has a black triangular pattern on it done in back lines. There are traces of black pigment next to the white lines as well as traces of triangular patterns in each of the other panels. There is a white line going round the middle just above where the slip- stops. The base of this olla has a dimple so that while it is round in shape it can rest on a horizontal plane. This pot has a flared mouth that the orange-red pigment around the rim. This piece measures 4 1/2" high x 5" maximum diameter. This vessel is from Panama. Over the last year I have sold my collection of PreColumbian through an auction house in New York. A few pieces were returned vetted but unsold at the end of the auction. This and several Chimu pieces were returned without being offered at auction. They were described as"questionable" There was no reason given why they thought it might not be genuine but that fact needs to be known before you read the description. I believe this to be a representation of a stingray. The pot is fairly large. 10 inches by 9 1/2 inches by a little more than seven inches tall. There are no chips. Cracks, there is wear about the handle where it would be expected, surface crackling on an area of the bottom and general light wear. Otherwise intact. A Nayarit seated figure from Pre-Columbian West Mexico. Circa 200 B.C. 300 A.D. This piece measures approximately 3 3/4" tall by about 2 1/4" wide, and depicts a seated individual. They are shown cloaked in a blanket with ornate designs indicative of Nayarit artistic sensibilities, wearing large ear and nose ornaments as well as a readdressing featuring a large decorated band. Original pigment remains, revealing geometric designs in white black and orange against a red slip, typical of Ixtlan del Rio variety Nayarit material. A wonderful diminutive example(rare) remaining in excellent condition. Condition: Intact with strong original pigment remaining. Minor abrasions. Weathering, wear and expected pigment loss. Pair of Pre-Columbian Colima Black & Red Vessels, Ancient West Mexico
An attractive pair of vessels from Pre-Columbian West Mexico. Circa 200 B.C. 300 A.D. likely attributed to the ancient Colima culture of West Mexico. The largest piece measures about 5" tall, while the smaller of the two measures about 3 1/2" tall. One vessel is finished in black, while the other is black. The form of the body of each vessel features a squared bottom lobe, topped by a rounded neck on the larger jar, with each having a flared rim. These display nicely as a pair. Condition: Intact and in original as-found condition. With minor chipping, abrasions weathering and wear. Otherwise, rootmarks, sediment and mineral deposits indicative of an ancient piece. A terracotta seated figure from western Mexico. Nayarit culture, ca. 300 BC- 400 AD. The figure, shows the remains of the original flesh colored paint, has striations at the top of the head to denote hair, wears a large nose ring and earrings, minimal facial features as is common with these figures. This is an original John Stuart Ottoman or stool. It's in fair condition but all around is a presentable piece. The previous owner of this piece in formed me, about the wood glue they used to fix the piece, but that is the only repair that has been done. The rest is all original. As you saw in the pictures the piece has an original an very appealing design. The clothe part of the piece has no stains or tears and the stitching is all original.The dimensions of this piece is 22x22x18 inches. I am not sure of the pieces date. This piece originally had three slab-style pedestal feet that have been lost to antiquity. This has a dark red background with lighter red zoomorphic design of the story of the Ant God Azcatl: Shortly after creating the new race of humans. Quetzalcoatl realized that he had to feed them or they would all die. Fortuitously, he saw Azcatl, a red ant, scurrying by with a kernel of corn in his jaws. Quetzalcoatl immediately asked where such food could be found, but Azcatl refused at first to reveal the secret. After some bullying, Azcatl finally ... morerelented and took Quetzalcoatl to Tonacatepetl, where Quetzalcoatl had to transform into a black ant in order to follow Azcatl through the narrow cracks through the mountain. Antique Double Bit Trade Axe/ Tomahawk / Throwing Ax Head New England Barn Find
This is an old ax head that was recovered from a collapsed old barn in coastal New England. I have put in hours of online research to find any information on it and have come up empty. I can't find another example quite like it. It could possibly be a trading ax of some sort. Or a throwing hatchet. It appears to be hand forged, and is somewhat primitive, and that leads me to believe that it's quite early. I have shown it to a few people that are pretty good with identifying old iron, and a couple of them have an opinion that it is possibly 18th century. I am quite sure that it is authentic. Based upon what I know for a fact of how and where it was recovered. It came out of an old, partially disintegrated metal pail in the back corner of an old barn that had collapsed years ago on an old dairy farm. Also in the bucket, was a couple ... moreof badly decayed old blacksmith's tongs that appeared to be really early, and of primitive construction. There was also an old railroad hammer, among other old iron pieces. I know for a fact that this bucket of junk had been lying undisturbed for at least the last 80 years or so. So no, there is a zero percent chance that this is a Bulgarian fake. I have taken plenty of pictures trying to catch all of the angles that might let a potential buyer see as much of it as possible. Use the zoom feature to inspect it closely. Use your own expert judgment to decide whether to purchase this item or not. I'm not asking a fortune for it. But I'm looking to get a fair price on it. Shoot me an offer, I might just take it. The head itself measures about 9 1/4" across. The cutting edges are about 1 7/8" long. the hole is about 1" by 1/2" It is in really nice overall condition. Large Pre-Columbian Colima Zoomorphic Incense Cover, Ancient West Mexico
A rare and fascinating zoomorphic incense cover from Pre-Columbian West Mexico. Circa 200 B.C. 300 A.D. likely attributed to the ancient Colima culture of West Mexico. This piece measures impressively at approximately 10" long by about 7 1/2" wide and about 6" tall. The form of the piece is complex. The handle appears to have been formed to represent the arched or undulating body of a lizard or snake, resting atop the dome-like body of the cover. The cover body features multiple rib-like ridges, perhaps meant to imply that the zoomorph is sitting atop a desert mound(with the ridges perhaps representing an eroded and blown sand landscape) Three feet on the bottom of the dome allow for this to function as a cover over a burnt offering(possibly copal incense) ensuring sufficient air can keep the substance smoldering, while the ... moredome-like lid allows for the area to retain heat sufficient to keep burning. Vessels of this type are well-documented in archaeological finds from this region, attributed to this function. Condition: Body is intact. With a repair at the neck of the head(with restoration over the break) and loss of the tail. Otherwise minor chipping, abrasions weathering and wear. Sediment and mineral deposits remain, indicative of an ancient piece. The underside exhibits staining from the burning of incense beneath this cover. Provenance: Former Lynn Langdon collection. Personally collected by Langdon in West Mexico between the 1940's- 1960's.

Pre-Columbian Colima Orangeware Olla, Ancient West Mexico
An attractive small orangeware olla from Pre-Columbian West Mexico. Circa 200 B.C. 300 A.D. This piece measures about 3 1/2" wide by about 2 3/4" tall, and is likely attributed to the ancient Colima culture of West Mexico. The body features knob-like protrusions around the center of the exterior, and exhibits a lovely form. Condition: Intact and in original as-found condition. With minor chipping, abrasions weathering and wear. There is about a 3/4" long trowel or shovel impact loss line on the bottom of one side, with stable stress lines extending from that point of contact. Otherwise, sediment and mineral deposits indicative of an ancient piece. Provenance: Former Lynn Langdon collection. Personally collected by Langdon in West Mexico between the 1940's- 1960's.
