16" Pre Columbian Pottery Statue From Honduras With Sketchy Provenance Damaged
First the sketchy provenance. I got this in a box lot in an auction which included an estate cleanout. Also in that box lot was a 1933 Groton School Yearbook. One student's picture was cut out all over the book. A certain Anthony Joseph Drexel Paul Jr. This was an all male school, and even though Franklin Delano Roosevelt Jr. was also in the class, none of his pictures were cut out, just Mr. Paul's. I thus conclude that this was Paul's yearbook and that it was also his statue. If you Google Anthony Joseph Drexel Paul Jr. you will find that while he was a student at Harvard in the 1930's, before his professional career, he went on an archaeological expedition to Honduras. It is upon this evidence which rests my conclusion that he collected this piece in the 1930's in Honduras. That's the"provenance. The statue ... moreis about 16 inches tall and with it's base. Weighs about 10 lbs. It has breaks and repairs with some missing pieces. It is also clear-coated with something, presumably to keep the surface from flaking and crumbling. Carving of a Maya stele,, Water scene Chaac? Modern copy one inch plus thick
This is a modern hand carved(at least that's what the original seller said who had commissioned in Mexico said) copy of a Maya stele. My knowledge of Maya iconography is minimal to be generous. It appears to be centered on the Maya tree of life. To the right with the long curved nose is the rain god Chaac. At the base there is a stylized fish and to the left several figures(making offerings? This came with an identification as to where it was but two moves later I can't find it. If it looks familiar any help is appreciated. even if you want to hang my iconography out to dry.lol) This is carved on a roughly square piece of black stone. Not sure what. It is very hard. Vintage Oak hand crank wall mount telephone Patent 1902-1920 made in the USA
This Vintage antique item hung in our kitchen for over 30 years which belonged to my father and perhaps his. There is no working parts inside or outside the phone itself and the only stamp i can find since all the insides are fone is one the handle pictured above which says( Patent Made in the USA Nov 1 9 2) I dont know if this means 1902 or 1920 nor do i know the model i do however see the wiring in the back. I believe this phone was taken apart and used just as a vintage wall peice which looks great inside any home. I am NOT and antiques experts but have done some research on these phones and refurbished phones and they are quiet highly priced. This an absolutely GORGEOUS Vintage 1901 Antique GE General Electric Pancake Motor Fan with a 16" Brass Fan Blade& Guard. This was recently purchased from an estate where I was informed that this had been completely dissasembled- stripped down and the black finish was all baked on at a local automotive shop a few years ago- and it shows! The enamel is almost mirror like! ALL Of the brass parts cleaned. Buffed and all sealed- and there is ALOT of brass on this beauty! This features a 16" BRASS BLADE AND GUARD. The blade looks like it may have had some wrinkles- that were correcty. It looks great- and man do they push some air! The 16" brass guard is perfect- no breaks or repairs. Antique African trade bead terracotta bead stone necklace earrings artifact art
Very nice and unusual necklace with earrings made from African trade beads and modern elements added to make it wearable. The African trade beads. Stones are large and deeply incised. Part of the designer jewelry from Encore by Design: wearing history, created by Elaine Teevens of Monument, Colorado. If you love the big bead look look at these guys for a nice 150-200 artifact wearable necklace which will bring a lot of comments. An eye catcher. Their are a few small stone beads that are terracotta and are Pre Columbian stones and disks inncorporated and some round beads are not old.
