Ancient pre columbian Salado Indian red clay smudged vase or vessel. An absolute classic american piece and hard to find. This comes from the Tonto Basin in Arizona. It is a small sized vessel. There are no repairs and it is one solid piece. There are three small chips in rim besides that this one is really amazing. The inside of vase is black smudged and outside is smooth. Everything is pictured above. This dates between 1150- 1300 ce. Overall a true gem and super gorgeous piece. The bowl measures in at about 3 3/4 inches tall X 5 inches at its widest point and about 3 inches rim to rim. The bottom is rounded but it sits absolutely flat. Dickinson School of Law- Fraternity Paddle. 1926-28, Sigma Alpha Epsilon(SAE) Greek fraternity paddle from EAE at Dickinson Law School. Has the years 1926-1928 on it. Some great caricature pictures and lots of brothers' signatures on it as well. Cleaned up well with orange and tung oil. No cracks or splits. What a great collectible piece. From the Dickinson SAE site- History of the Pennsylvannia Sigma-Phi Chapter The Pennsylvania Sigma-Phi Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon was established at Dickinson College on October 11. 1890. Chester N. Ames, along with the help of a few other founding members, established the Chapter. Other existing fraternities on campus at that time included Phi Kappa Sigma and Phi Kappa Psi. Depicting two sitting feline or jaguar figures and three floating heads. Framed under glass, textile sandwiched between the glass and a black cardboard backing(not examined out of frame) Finely woven llama wool and probably part of a tunic front. The frame is old and is painted red with tiny yellow spots to match the jaguars. So it was probably framed in Peru near where it was found. Striking Pre Columbian terracotta Costa Rican tripod alligator art artifact COA
Wonderful tall Costa Rica tripod vessel or incense burner that has alligators features as legs. Tall chimney curved graceful legs. From the Atlantic Watershed/Central Highlands zone of Costa Rica from Period V. There has been some repair to legs which reattached but it is not really taking from the piece. Usual surface uneven coloring and surface scratching but in great shape. The alligator motif is wonderful. Brown pottery body with red slip. I purchased at auction from Artemis Gallery. Great lot of what I have been told are authentic. Pre Columbian pottery artifacts. I showed these to an expert in the field and he confirmed they are up to 1,000 years old and possibly from Ecuador(not the proto money) Everything appears to be in very good condition with no visible repairs or cracks or significant chips, just expected age use wear and minimal rim wear. Included in the auction are 3 vessels, spindle whorls and/or beads, longer pieces that may be stamps, seals or for body paint, and what I think is a proto money ring. I purchased all these together but they may have come from different areas. Please ask questions before bidding. I am not an expert on these items. Paracas textiles are among the rarest and most desirable of all Precolumbian textiles. Rivalled, perhaps, only by the finest Wari slit tapestries and some early Nazca pieces. This fragment is complete in itself, and would have formed part of the central field of a large mantle. This particular textile is from the Paracas Cavernas culture, as opposed to the Necropolis. Generally, the Cavernas pieces are considered to be the oldest of all Paracas textiles, dated generally to circa 400-200BC. This example shows a stylized feline adorned with several trophy heads. It is in exceptional condition and comes from an old New England collection. No staining and no repairs. It measures 3-1/4" X 2-7/8" not including the small bits of background cloth that would have separated each figure in the central field. Pre-Columbian HEAD Vessel Moche PERU Dig Guaranteed Authentic approx. 700 AD Recently I was able to obtain several pieces of authentic pre-Columbian pottery and artifacts from ancient civilizations including the Mayan. Incan, Nazca, Aztec, and Central American cultures, all from one individual’s upscale collection. Up for auction is this very cool Vessel. It is a fat rotund HEAD Vessel attributed to the Moche Civilization during the late classic period. 700AD-850AD. It came from a pre WWII dig and has been off the market until now. The piece shows a head at the top in a very strange expression. Almost like he is in pain. He has a very flat head and piercing eyes his mouth is either smirking or showing stress. His ears pop out the sides of his head. There is a tiny hole in the neck and it looks like a tracheotomy to me, maybe that’s why he ... moreis in pain? In his belly is a wide mouth to fill the vessel with water or blood or whatever this was used for. The front is all red and the reverse seems white, but it could just be the dirt that has adhered to the surface causing the whitish look. The piece is bulbous and measures 9” TALL and is about 7” at its widest. It is unusually lightweight and the walls are thin. The vessel is delicate. The bottom is shaped like a football and it is not meant to stand upright. There are surface stains and some very minor surface spotting. This is an extremely old piece and quite interesting and BIG piece. The dating. Attribution of culture and historical references came from meticulous research from the original collector via a very reputable auction house in St Augustine Florida. Pair of antique Mexican village specific terracotta artifacts, rare combination
This is a unique set of two very old pottery post Pre Columbian pottery vessels made in the same region in a small village in Mexico. I bought the larger bowl first thinking it was Peruvian. And had it looked at. After some research, I found a dealer in Pre Columbian antiquities who recognized the distinct coffee bean pattern. He had travelled throughout Mexico. It belongs to a small village or town in Mexico. Many villages will make a specific design or pattern over years so that you can tell by the pattern where many items of pottery originate and came from. This is old but not ancient. Possibly 150-200 years old. I do not know the region. I bought the bowl piece and then later by coincidence found the smaller one online separately from the first and was struck by the same pattern on both of them. It was interesting to come on the second ... moreas I haven't seen this design. They are of interest because they old and reflect the repetitiveness of certain patterns opin smaller more isolated areas. I think they come from different ages as the stemmed bowl looks newer. Both in good condition. Big one faded a bit more. Some surface scratching. They could make interesting candy bowls as well. Great price for two items. Terracotta. But not a glossy surface. Goes comfortably with pre Columbian art, vessels pottery artifacts, just made a bit den the age likely a couple hundred years after the Spaniards coloniaized much of Mexico. Culture: Colonial Mexico.
