Viking #10 series 3-footed Lemon plate - Crystal w/ silver overlay.
This piece started as a crystal three toed lemon plate(1010) made by Viking Glass of West Virginia. The silver overlay decoration was done by Silver City Glass in their"Flanders" pattern(also called“Flanders Poppy” This pattern is most notably seen as a background for Anniversary and Birthday commemoratives. This gorgeous plate was made without any of these celebratory banners making it a unique collectible. It has sterling outlines of leaves and poppy flowers and buds as well as silver overlay on the scalloped edges. The glass blank is dated circa 1950's. There are no chips. Cracks or repairs to the glass. There is no missing pattern to the silver and no black tarnish. It shines wonderfully and is appropriate for a gift. I do not profess to be an expert on Glass. The base of the handle is also marked"sterling" The spoon has a beautiful rope handle topped with a depiction of a bearded Viking or Norseman wearing a winged helmet. This is not a typical souvenir spoon as there is no indication of the place visited. The gold washed bowl is engraved with the name"Marion" in a fancy script. The spoon is a demitasse size. Measuring a little over 4-1/4" long. It has been lightly polished with non-abrasive cleaners and was found to be in very nice antique condition with no discernible flaws and only minimal wear to the design. Under magnification you can see the typical tiny scratches in the gold washed bowl from a century of polishing and there is some wear to the gold wash on the bottom of the bowl. Any dark spots showing in the photographs are reflections and/or residual tarnish and not flaws. This is a lovely model of a Norse Viking ship. It is signed(illegible initials) M.Aase NORWAY. The ship measures 14” long and 7” high. I have not polished it as some collectors prefer to do their own polishing. Condition is very good. There is a paint drip inside the ship which can be cleaned away. Magnus Aase was a predominant silversmith in the first half of the 20th century. Please refer to my 100% positive feedback rating and I’m eager to respond to your questions. Up for bid is an awesome Sterling Silver Salt dish in the shape of a Viking boat. has the glass insert and spoon. The boat weighs 21.5 grams. Marked 925 S and the makers mark. Measures approximately 3 1/4 inch from head to head, 1 3/4 inch from the top of the head to the bottom of the boat. about 1 1/4 inch across the middle of the boat.
