Marked Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE I personally purchased this item in 1980 from an antique dealer at the ancient“Grand Bazaar” in Istanbul. Turkey while on a business trip. The exact age is unknown. But it is believed to date to the 18th/19th century and possibly earlier. During the coppersmith’s production process of this unique bowl. Tin was interspersed with copper, both inside and out, giving it a beautiful and unique look. There is a maker's mark on the bottom of the bowl. A photo has been provided that clearly shows the maker’s mark. The bowl measures 8" across the top and 4 3/8” at the base. It is 4 1/8” tall. The bowl weights 1 lb. 8 oz. Antique Persian? Safavid? Kashkul. Very rare. Made from tinned copper. The Kashkul(begging bowl) is a typical boat shape with raised ends terminating in heads of sea creatures? The sides and ends of the bowl are decorated with cartouches of what appear to be sea creatures again and the raised base engraved with what could be waves to symbolise the sea. The Kashkul would have been used by a wandering religious man and was a sign of the poverty he assumed. Condition commensurate with age and use as per the photographs. A fabulous piece. I really didn't know anything about this item when I bought it but looking at images of kashkuls on Google and reading the details they seem to be quite sought after. Normally only fragment of the inscriptions is visible. They are popularly known as" hairpin money" The earliest larins were struck at the inland town of Lar and the coastal town of Jarun but later issues(beginning with TahmaspI) were struck at numerous mints throughout Persia. The city name Lar was the root of the denominational term. Larin were intended for the Indian Ocean trade, especially to Sri Lanka and India.

Museum quality pair of antique Persian Door Knockers. the door knockers are made from Iron as far as I can tell. These are a very interesting pair. These would have been used on the entrance doors of a building. However the one with the long stick knocker. Would have been used on the door for the Male entrance. The other one with the heart shaped knocker would have been used for the Ladies entrance of the building. So they have an interesting history behind them. The have a beaurtiful shape. And have been hand chased with beautiful calligraphy all over. I think these date from early Qajar Era during the late 18th century. However somebody else saw them and suggest they were Safavid and not Qajar. So they ... morecould perhaps be 16th- 17th century. I have never seen anything similar to this on ebay ever. These are very rare items. And I am sure you will not see anything similar on ebay again. Dont miss out on the opportunity to bid on these fantastic pair of Genuine Antique Persian door knockers. They truly are a rare collector's item. Size The height of the knocker is 39.8cm = 15.7 inches. The width of the knokcers is 23cm = 9.1 inches. You are bidding on a very nice antique Tabarzin axe probably late 17th century early 18th century. I think this is Persian rather than Indian but the late Deccan era was highly influenced by the Safavid dynasty so is hard to tell. It is a very HEAVY piece of a considerable SIZE. The head is 7-1/2 inches long and the blade is 5 inches wide. Top to bottom 11-1/2 inches. The head is made from wootz while the shaft collar is not probably iron. The surface of the head had deep chiseled very detailed decorations. Overall a very well made axe still in good condition with some surface old pitting marks. In the book"the Art of The Muslim Knight" at page ... more268 there is an almost identical axe described as Southern India Deccan 17th 18th century. Please note the beautiful symmetry of the blade. Most of later axes having a rather flat top and also the hammer back of the head that also is not flat but v shaped, another reason I think this is Persian. A very nice piece. Rare Islamic Persian Safavid/Qajar Wooden Comb with Inscription--17th 0r 18th C
Up for auction is this beautiful genuine Safavid era Persian comb. The estimated age is 300 to 400 years. It's made of wood and carved masterfully on both sides with the usual Islamic/Persian floral designs and inscriptions. The inscriptions on both sides are in arabic and incite a verse of the Persian poet Sa'di in honor of the prophet: بلغ العُلى بكماله كشف الدُجى بجماله. حسنت جمىع خصاله صلّو علىه و آله. Combs like this seldom appear online for sale. And certainly I haven't seen that many of them. Right now what I could find online was a similar comb listed on ebay for $450.
