Roman Bronze-Iron Medical Surgical Instruments Set
Roman Bronze-Iron Medical Surgical Instruments Set measures: 126 mm/ 45 mm measures: 143 mm/ 15 mm weight: 128 gm The Roman Empire was the post-Republican period of the ancient Roman civilization. Characterised by an autocratic form of government and large territorial holdings in Europe and around the Mediterranean. The term is used to describe the Roman state during and after the time of the first emperor, Augustus. The 500-year-old Roman Republic, which preceded it, had been weakened and subverted through several civil wars. Several events are commonly proposed to mark the transition from Republic to Empire, including Julius Caesar's appointment as perpetual dictator(44 BC) the Battle of Actium(2 September 31 BC) and the Roman Senate's granting to Octavian the honorific Augustus(4 January 27 BC) Roman expansion began in the days ... moreof the Republic, but the empire reached its greatest extent under Emperor Trajan: during his reign the Roman Empire controlled approximately 6.5 million km2 of land surface. Because of the Empire's vast extent and long endurance, the institutions and culture of Rome had a profound and lasting influence on the development of language, religion, architecture, philosophy, law, and forms of government in the territory it governed, particularly Europe, and by means of European expansionism throughout the modern world. In the late 3rd century AD, Diocletian established the practice of dividing authority between four co-emperors, in order to better secure the vast territory, putting an end to the Crisis of the Third Century. During the following decades the empire was often divided along an East/West axis. After the death of Theodosius I in 395 it was divided for the last time.8] The Western Roman Empire collapsed in 476 as Romulus Augustus was forced to abdicate by Odoacer. The Eastern Roman or Byzantine Empire ended in 1453 with the death of Constantine XI and the capture of Constantinople by the Ottoman Turks led by Mehmed II. She is 100% bronze and handmade, this multi color patina sculpture was cast using the"Lost Wax Method" and mounted on a marble base and is signed The Art of Lost Wax Lost wax casting has been around for thousands of years. Yet few people understand how the process actually works. ... moreAlthough mechanization has facilitated the lost wax process of bronze casting. The procedure is basically the same as that used by the Chinese when they first developed the process in the 2nd millennium BC. The Rubber Mold First the artist creates an original sculpture out of any number of media. Including stone, wax, clay, wood and pottery. This image is coated with a silicone rubber molding material that makes two rubber mold halves(each rubber mold has a front and a back piece) A fiberglass outer shell is added to the back of each mold so it retains its shape and rigidity during subsequent uses. These molds are the only components that are ever re-used in the casting process. All other components are re-created for each casting. The Wax Positive Once the molds are done. The insides are coated with layers of wax. The halves are then bound together and wax poured inside to complete the wax image being created. Once the wax has cooled. The mold is peeled away, yielding a wax image(the wax positive" duplicating the original sculpture. This image must then be"touched-up" to remove any seam lines. Bronze Dimensions with Marble Base:Height 13" x Width 7" Marble Dimensions: Diameter7" Height without base: 12" Weight: 12 LBS Inventory: 53X23494735 We witness the beautiful Roman Goddess. Wandering about the privacy of her gardens in her translucent dress. The fabric of her gown flows against and around her like the wind moves the currents of rivers around the bends of the earth. She was captured with a Classical flair using the archaic method of lost-wax casting and stained with a brown patina finish guaranteeing permanence. The hand-made bronze sculpture is mounted upon a black marble base with the artist Jean Patoue signature. The process of bringing a bronze sculpture to life ... moreusing the lost-wax method is something you'll appreciate after taking this tour- Enjoy. Here Artist original clay sculpture is nearly ready for the foundry. Note the artist is still adding the finishing touches. Most sculptors prefer to work with clay or wax; some however. Do use wood and other mediums. Here the finished original clay is now complete. The sculptor will take it to the foundry now, get a bid then begin the first stages of the lost wax process. The first step can be shocking for some as they begin to decide how this original will be cut up. In order to prepare the original clay sculpture for molding. It will be dissected by cutting the clay with wire and by cutting the armature with a saw. The armature is what helped support the clay in place while the artist was creating it. Note the registration marks which later in the process will serve to realign the parts. Shown here are the sections of the original clay sculpture after having been dissected. Now the various parts of the original are carefully mounted on clay plugs before the rubber mold material is applied. The clay plug later serves as a pour spout for the mold. As you can see now they begin painting

Roman Spintria Tesserae Token III Bronze
Obverse: Heterosexual erotic scene Reverse: III within wreath Diameter: ~ 35 mm Weight: ~ 30 g Normal 0 false false false EN-GB X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 A"spintria" is a Roman coin with an erotic scene on one side and a the Roman number on the other. They seem to have been produced for only a short period. Mostly in the 1st century AD. Spintria" itself is a word bearing a different meaning in Latin but it is an entirely modern practice to apply it to these little objects. Archeologists are indeed unsure what the Romans called them. or what they used them for. But there are a number of guesses. The dominating idea circulating about these tokens is that they were part of the highly developed Roman brothel economy. Perhaps a Roman soldier got the token and then went and redeemed it at one of the local brothels. ... moreOr maybe the sexual position depicted on the token was what he had paid for. Now. As there is no evidence for these things at all, no-one could actually disprove that. However. There is no Roman mention of such things, none have been found in any place that has been identified as a"brothel" and no mention of any kind of infrastructure of the ancient"brothel industry" that this kind of internal currency would imply. So what is a more likely explanation? Almost certainly these were tokens whose main function was the numeral. And the sex scene on the back was'decoration" One possibility would be an amphitheatre token, and the Roman number would indicate which entrance you were to use. Another possible explanation is that it was a gaming token. For one of the many Roman board games. All the above comes to prove that: Roman spintriae bear no erotic connotations; Roman spintriae are not sexually oriented adult material! These are just a piece of art the way ancient Romans saw it! Important: The actual item may vary slightly from the one shown! Please note: I have several items of each coin so for the photos I have simply choose one of them. You do not rece

One of the most notable amulets of ancient Egypt is the. Cylinder seals were used as amulets by the Assyrians and Babylonians.
