BRONZE MARBLE SCULPTURE ROMAN GOD WARRIOR STATUE SIGNED PICAULT FIGURE FIGURINE Description Condition: This sculpture is in perfect condition. Bronze ... moreDimensions with Marble Base:Height 16" x Width 8" Marble Dimensions:8" X 7" Height without base: 15" Weight:17 LBS Inventory: 74B0937647 The Roman legion sits upon a chair in a full soldier's regalia in a stoic and heroic manner. His stone look shows a dutiful soldier who marches and fights for the gain of the his empire homeland. The handmade bronze sculpture was cast using the ancient method of lost-wax casting and stained with a brown patina finish for preservation. It is mounted upon a black marble base with the European Bronze Finery stamp of quality and the artist E.L Picault's signature. The Art of Lost Wax Lost wax casting has been around for thousands of years. Yet few people understand how the process actually works. Although mechanization has facilitated the lost wax process of bronze casting. The procedure is basically the same as that used by the Chinese when they first developed the process in the 2nd millennium BC. The Rubber Mold First the artist creates an original sculpture out of any number of media. Including stone, wax, clay, wood and pottery. This image is coated with a silicone rubber molding material that makes two rubber mold halves(each rubber mold has a front and a back piece) A fiberglass outer shell is added to the back of each mold so it retains its shape and rigidity during subsequent uses. These molds are the only components that are ever re-used in the casting process. All other components are re-created for each casting. The Wax Positive Once the molds are done. The insides are coated with layers of wax. The halves are then bound together and wax poured inside to complete the wax image being created. Once the wax has cooled. The mold is peeled away, yielding a wax image(the wax positive" duplicating the original sculpture. This image must then be"touched-up" to remove any seam lines. S

Ancient Roman Bronze Ring with Beautiful Light Green Glass Stone 200-400 AD Apart from gold and other precious metals. Romans used glass to make their ... morejewelry. Roman jewelry gives us an insight into the culture of this ancient country. Just like other ancient civilizations. Rome also had its distinct strata of social classes. In the Roman society, jewelry was worn for indicating the social status of a person and attaching pieces of clothing rather than beautification. Gold was used by the artisans and jewelers for carving the adornments and jewelry as it was believed to be the metal of the Gods and supposed to have descended from the sun. Other than gold, the materials used in jewelry making were bronze, Roman glass, bone beads and precious gemstones which were excavated from far off places like Persia, Far East, Indus Valley, etc. Diamonds, emeralds and sapphires found their way from the silk route to the Roman land to appease the rich and mighty of this civilization. EX RARE 1940s Signed A.R. Cole Grecian/Roman Pitcher Copper Bronze Green Rutile
We purchased this piece as well as another rare and very important piece directly from Neolia Cole. Daughter of AR This stunning example of superior turning was thrown by AR himself in the late 40s or early 50s. Wonderful Grecian or Roman pitcher stands approx 13" tall and is really special. This pot graced the showcase in the middle room of the legendary Cole Pottery shop from the 50s till just about 1 year ago. As told by Neolia it survived the fire if 1976 that destroyed the pottery shed. Has remnants of soot as we have not tried to clean it Please Please Please look at this glaze. A stunning copper bronze rutile over green that I've never seen before. Magnificent master craftsman turnings with awesome lines and details. Signed with the old AR Cole Pottery stamp and hand inscribed catalog number as well We are hesitate to offer ... morewith no reserve but will end auction early if no interest is shown and keep this one No chips cracks or repairs. A couple of tiny glaze flakes here and there and the remnants of soot from the fire of 76 are the only post production issues. I this piece does well we will offer possibly the VERY LAST SIGNED AND DATED POT that AR EVER turned. He died in March 1974 an we have a floor/porch vase with incredible incised decoration hand signed and dated Feb 1974. Let's see what interest there is in this special piece Please if shipping looks high just ask for a quote as we cannot control what the calculator shows Offered with low opening bid and no reserve. very rare museal roman bronze omega symbol ca. 100-300AD
The Roman Empire was the post-Republican phase of the ancient Roman civilization. Characterised by an autocratic form of government and large territorial holdings in Europe and around the Mediterranean. The term is used to describe the Roman state during and after the time of the first emperor, Augustus. The 500-year-old Roman Republic. Which preceded it, had been weakened and subverted through several civil wars. Several events are commonly proposed to mark the transition from Republic to Empire, including Julius Caesar's appointment as perpetual dictator(44 BC) the Battle of Actium(2 September 31 BC) and the Roman Senate's granting to Octavian the honorific Augustus(4 January 27 BC) Roman expansion began in the days of the Republic, but reached its zenith under Emperor Trajan. At this territorial peak, the Roman Empire controlled ... moreapproximately 6.5 million km² of land surface. Because of the Empire's vast extent and long endurance, the institutions and culture of Rome had a profound and lasting influence on the development of language, religion, architecture, philosophy, law, and forms of government in the territory it governed, particularly Europe, and by means of European expansionism throughout the modern world. HISTORY OF THE ROMAN REPUBLIC After the deposal of the last Etruscan king. In 509-10 BC, Rome abolished her regal system and instituted a new political order, the Republic. The consuls chose an advisory council, the Senate, at first ad hoc, later according to well-defined qualifications(of landed wealth, military and political service) The consuls led the army in times of war and had executive powers in most others matters. Army service was a duty of citizenship but it was also a privilege for which only the wealthier(who could supply their own equipment) were eligible. Soon a small group of aristocratic families. The patricians, managed to gain a virtual monopoly on the consulship and most other civic and priestly offices t

On Vespasian’s death, in June 79, Domitian expected the same position as Titus had received under Vespasian, in particular, tribunician power and some form of imperium. These were not granted. And Domitian was evidently antagonistic to his brother and is alleged to have hastened his death, which occurred on Sept. 13, 81. As emperor. Domitian was hated by the. Ancient Bronze Coin - Scipio Africanus, Horse Reverse - Roman Carthage Greek
Disclaimer: ancient coins are not my area of expertise. According to my research. The smaller one possibly depicts the famous general Scipio Africanus and has the Carthaginian style horse reverse. For a similar coin, go to the forumancientcoins website and search"Scipio Africanus" They sell theirs for over $300, and they're very knowledgeable. The second coin has a damaged obverse. But shows a prancing horse on the reverse. It could be Greek; I can't figure it out. You get both coins.

In ancient times, a ring distinguished an individual in a way that other forms of jewelry did not. Finger rings represented the language of social code, and connoted one’s social standing. Under the Empire, the finger ring was still considered a privilege, conferred for military distinction. As time wore on and attitudes changed, the ring was more freely bestowed. Even so, the ring ... moreretained its position as a mark of dignity, as a rich ornament, as an important seal, and as a token of betrothal. Special caskets were created for holding rings, and it was customary to remove a ring from the casket, to place on the finger of a visiting guest welcomed into one's home.
