Vintage Mexican Folk Pre-Columbian Style Mayan Snake Pottery Bowl Pipe Incense
This is a vintage piece that I obtained from an old importer in South Texas that was on his dusty back warehouse shelves. Great find. It is a three legged. Pre-columbian style pottery piece. Actual pre-columbian pieces are protected by the Mexican government. This is just a style- not actual pottery from that era. This one has a unique mayan head, snake legs and scroll work on the handles. Holes in the bowl indicate it was for smoking something. Large enough for incense. It measures 12" x 5" x 5" overall. The bowl itself is 5" diameter and 2 3/4" deep. Painted clay pottery. It is in very good shape with no chips or cracks. A very unique piece for your folk art collection. I did obtain a second bowl from him in a slightly different style I will be listing also. Contact me if you are interested.

SALE Pre Columbian Mayan Olla vessel terracota pottery artifact art
Sale item. Reducing my collection. This is a nice Pre Columbian Mayan olla vessel with really interesting surface patina. Nice for the beginning collector with lower budget but with lots of interesting features. It has manganese deposits from burial. The uneven fading patterns of paint and glaze leaves traces of paint showing even with some red coloring. On the bottom it has some lines still penetrating through of the original design work and from side it appears there are columns of color left over. I like this piece mostly because of its patina and old look and still in good shape though much paint has faded. A good conversation piece and priced for the lower budget. Culture: Mayan. PRE COLUMBIAN ECUADOR POTTERY HEAD FRAGMENT FEMALE JAMACOAQUE AUTHENTIC
PRE COLUMBIAN POTTERY HEAD FRAGMENT ECUADOR JAMACOAQUE This is a very beautiful female Pre Columbian authentic pottery head fragment from Ecuador. My photos are close up to show detail but the figure looks more detail when viewed from a normal distance. It has remaining red paint on the elongated headdress front and back which has four unidentified three dimensional ornaments. The face has heavily lidded eyes and is wearing ear ornaments and has a collar around the neck. The expression seems very peaceful. One side lappet is missing and the nose and chin have some minor damage. It measures 2 7/8 inches high and 2" across the headdress. The face itself is 1 inch high.Unusual in that the base almost resembles a wine stopper with a rounded section that I have pictured. The fragment will not stand alone because of the rounded base. From a ... moreprivate collection that had Tolita and Jamacoaque head fragments but I believe this is Jamacoaque. Basic clay color seems to be gray as on the one side of the headdress but the face is lighter. There are tiny reflective crystals in the clay. Photos are a bit darker than the fragment. All damage and missing elements are pictured. This is an authentic fragment and not a reproduction.

Pre-Columbian Pottery from San Agustin Cultural Tradition, Columbia - 100 B.C.
This is a nice example of an incised wide-mouth carinated black-ware pot from Colombia that dates to around 100 B.C. The mouth on this piece is lightly angled to as not to be round. But almost octagonal. Below the mouth, on the sides, this piece of pottery has incised markings in the shape of chevrons. This pot measures 5" tall X 7 1/4" wide and it is freestanding. It has restoration done to the lip and a has a stable pressure crack in the side, however this is a still nice piece of ancient pottery. This pot is from the Norman Lane Collection, however he did not put his numbering system on the bottom of this this pot. International buyers pay full cost of shipping- I ship to most places. RARE Pre Columbian Vera Cruz dying Deity terracotta artifact art pottery COA
This is a rare and very unusual figural effigy of a Pre Columbian terracotta. Pottery dying deity figure lying on a bed with a blanket. It has also been described as a sleeping deity. In any event it is a real eye grabber. Figure much more realism based than a lot of Pre Columbian art complete with open mouth and teeth. Figure lying supine with legs up and either dying or sleeping. Head has holes through it but I don't know the meaning of this. He is not demanding and will not ask much attention. This really caught my eye and is a striking Vera Cruz artifact that will really be a conversation piece. I purchased it from Artemis Gallery and it comes with Certificate of Authenticity. Culture: Vera Cruz culture. Eastern Mexico. CA: 6-800AD. Size:10 inches long. 6 inches high, 4 inches wide. Provenance: ex Paul Punks collection. ex Arte Primitivo, ... moreex Artemis Gallery. 16" Pre Columbian Pottery Statue From Honduras With Sketchy Provenance Damaged
First the sketchy provenance. I got this in a box lot in an auction which included an estate cleanout. Also in that box lot was a 1933 Groton School Yearbook. One student's picture was cut out all over the book. A certain Anthony Joseph Drexel Paul Jr. This was an all male school, and even though Franklin Delano Roosevelt Jr. was also in the class, none of his pictures were cut out, just Mr. Paul's. I thus conclude that this was Paul's yearbook and that it was also his statue. If you Google Anthony Joseph Drexel Paul Jr. you will find that while he was a student at Harvard in the 1930's, before his professional career, he went on an archaeological expedition to Honduras. It is upon this evidence which rests my conclusion that he collected this piece in the 1930's in Honduras. That's the"provenance. The statue ... moreis about 16 inches tall and with it's base. Weighs about 10 lbs. It has breaks and repairs with some missing pieces. It is also clear-coated with something, presumably to keep the surface from flaking and crumbling. The restoration job looks as though it might have been done by some college student in the 1930's, but it's still a nice piece. 336.RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fvo%7B%3Dd70f%2B%3E336-147da882431-0x10e-

This work of wonder/art was bought roughly 50 years ago in Mexico and has moved back and forth to/from Mexico thrice. Background on Pre-Columbian 2500 B.C. 950 A.D. Pre-Columbian art references art in the Americas prior to the arrival of Columbus in 1492. Ancient civilizations developed great cities with temples and palaces. Produced art and established extensive trade routes. The most prominent cultures were those of Mesoamerica and the Central Andes Mountains in South America. Central America developed to a lesser degree. Serving as a bridge and stopping point between the two cultures. Most artifacts from these civilizations are derived from ancient burial sites where pottery and ornaments accompanied the dead. This period came to an end with the arrival of the Spaniards and subsequent destruction of the once great Inca civilization in 1532. Pre-Columbian bottle vessel Spider paintings wTL test ceramic Pottery Moche RARE
It's an art to produce such a uniform shape without a potter's wheel. Sideways there are small lugs for hanging the ceramic. The spout is cylindrical and long. But what are really fascinated me the paintings: very similar paintings can be found on the reliefs of the Huaca de la Luna. One of the wonderful temple of the Moche in northern Peru. One is a hybrid of snake with fox head(Foxes announce by cries of rain) the other shows spider creatures, the sign of the warrior caste of the temple. Most form from Moche ceramics animals or human forms, but bottle shapes with such rare paintings are hard to find. The condition is due to age, scratches, discoloration, small imperfections on the surface. A great vessel! See the price inclusive the lab test. Unbeatable! For offer is a handle vessel in the form of a human figure. It represents a priest in robes with a high headdress and necklace. The arms and hands are painted and act supernaturally large. Which suggests that it could also be a healer. Although the age of the Nazca ceramics falls in the time, the Wari influence can be seen already. At spout a fragment is missing(see picture) and a crack cut thereby around the face; age-related abrasions and color. Otherwise in good condition. Great paint pre-Columbian bottle vessel wTL test Doc! Ceramic Pottery Lambayeque
Very nice strap handle vessel in a spherical shape with a long tapered spout; the foot is also conical and decorated in relief; the patterns show temple or Andean stairs. You can still see parts of the wavy decor painted on the red base. Nice wide flaring rim. Possibly an incensiario but I think more likely an animal effigy vessel for ceremonial use or burial. A very old antiquity artifact. Purchased from Arte Xibalba who has wonderful Pre Columbian art pieces. Wonderful animal collector piece. Culture: Jalisco culture.
