Olmec Mask in Green Stone Modern but Nicely Done
This is a modern version of the Olmec culture's royal burial mask. The Olmec are to some extent looked on as the mother culture of the Maya. This has the kind of graining that one sees in Central American jade. However I'm going to call it archaeological jade. Which I guess means any green stone resembling jade and let you decide. The mask depicts the transformation of the royal or shaman into what is sometimes called a were. It is eight inches tall and six and a half inches wide. The ears are pierced and there are two piercings at the sides of the head for fastening to the deceased. there are shallow drill marks to the nose and to each side of the mouth. The eyes and the mouth look like the way the originals did prior to insetting with stone and shell eyes and teeth although that is more common in the work of the Teotihuacanos of ... morecentral Mexico. Another culture whose influence spread over large parts of Mexico and Central America Of course now the holes at the sides of the head just makes for easy hanging if you so choose. It is thick but seems heavy even for stone. It weighs nearly four pounds. This seems much better done than some of the tourist things and may have been for a museum shop where they would take care to make it more realistic. I will only accept bids from the United States. Pre-Colombian Olmec Sacrificial Axe
Pre-Colombian Olmec Sacrificial Axe 1600-400 BC Coastal Petén region of Guatemala The Olmec Civilization was known for their blood sacrifices and tribal warring. Captured enemy soldiers would be put to the Axe and tossed from the tops of temples to honor the Gods. Intricate weapons were created to send these sacrifices to their final resting place. Stones carved for such use included Jade. Obsidian, and Diorite-Bassalt. This Figurative Axe has classic features of the Olmec. Including large lips and small eyes. Sinew or rope would tie through the Ear Flares and the opening in the mouth to attach the stone to a handle. The top of the head comes to a sharp edge, with signs of use, for the striking edge.

Pre Columbian Carved Stone Seated Figure Idol Effigy Statue Olmec Mayan Mezcala
This listing is for a Pre Columbian carved stone figure. The stone is relatively soft. And a gray color where the original surface is chipped. The statue stands on its feet, though it is in a seated or hunched position. The front surface is darker than the back. The deeper recesses have a white crystalline residue. The figure stands 5.9" tall, and weighs 27 ounces. Its in good condition save for the lighter color chips and scratches. I am fairly unfamiliar with South American artifacts, and rather than attempt to attribute it, I will let you decide what culture it came from.

Pre-columbian Olmec Jade Were-jaguar Spoon Click on these links to view larger photos: 1- 2 Rare Pre-columbian Olmec spoon from Mexico. Ca. 900-500 B.C. Carved from a very nice jade stone with a deity head centered over the main depression of the spoon, with the distinctive features of a were-jaguar with taut downward curving mouth baring toothless gums, the upper lip flattened against the flared nostrils and with pierced septum, the recessed eyes narrowed. The spoon seams to have been broken in antiquitiy and than made into a pendant. Very nice example! 7-13/16" in length x 2-11/16" in height.
