TRANSLATE Arabic Chinese French German Greek Indonesian Italian Hindi Japanese Korean Swedish Portuguese Russian Spanish Genuine Intricate. Beautiful ... moreAncient Chinese Buddhist Shrine Decorative Clay Tile Depicting Eight Hindu-Style Bodhisattvas. Possibly an 18th or 19th Century Revival Imitative. CLASSIFICATION: Ancient Chinese Buddhist Clay Shrine Tile. ATTRIBUTION: In the Style of Ancient China. Liao Dynasty(907-1125 A.D. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Length: 243 millimeters(9 3/4 inches) Width: 188 millimeters(7 1/2 inches) Thickness: 25 millimeters(1 inch) Weight: 3 pounds. 6 ounces(about 1½ kilograms) CONDITION: Exceptional. Integrity entirely intact. No significant chips or cracks. Minor surface crazing. Professionally conserved. Can be sealed upon request. DETAIL: This is a very beautiful. Intricately detailed gray clay tile from the Liao Dynasty of ancient China. These clay tiles were used to decorate the inside walls of Buddhist shrines. The depiction is somewhat reminiscent of a Hindu depiction. Of course Buddhism came to China from Hindu India, and there exist of course many parallels between the Chinese and Indian variants of Buddhism. The depiction is of eight bodhisattvas of various sizes. There is a little surface crazing and a few minute chips; but no cracks or major chips. It is constructed of very strong sintered clay produced using a very special technique often employed to produce strengthened steel. Although it is probable that this specimen is much older. It is also possible that this piece might be a revivalist imitative produced for the European market of the 18th or 19th century. It is widely known that Chinese porcelain and other ceramic artwork was quite popular in Victorian Europe. Carrying Chinese porcelain from China to Europe was an industry for the seafaring mariners of the 16th. 17th, and 18th centuries. Entire fleets of sailing ships plied the trade, especially the Dutch and English. However in addition to porcelain, ancient Chinese ceramics were also extremely popular in Vi

4500Y.O: WONDERFUL ARROW HEAD POINT STONE AGE NEOLITHIC AX BELL BEAKER CULTURE!
EUROPEAN STONE AGE ARTIFACTS BY PALATINA AUTHENTICITY GUARANTEED Description arrow head from the Bell Beaker Culture" Dating 2500-2200 bc. Bell Beaker Culture is also known as Glockenbecher(German) and Gobelet campaniforme(French) culture. Among the Middle Neolithic objects discovered in Passage Graves. And occurring as stray finds, we find objects belonging to a separate culture, the Bell Beaker Culture. The culture known as Bell Beaker is the largest portion of the loosely grouped Beaker Folk, named for a very particular type of ceramic vessel, shaped like an upside-down bell. A very widespread culture were pastoralists from the Late Copper Age into the Early Bronze Age, ca. 2500-2200 BC. This group appears almost simultaneously over an immense area extending from the coastal regions of Southwest Europe through the whole of Central ... moreEurope as far as Denmark. It has been customary to represent this culture as spreading through Europe from Central Spain but it proves to be of foreign derivation even in Spain and its origins can be traced further South to North Africa and Egypt. In Northern Europe their influence can clearly be seen in the earlier objects from the Eastern Single Grave area. The comparatively small number of relics of this culture groups undoubtedly, in Denmark as in the rest of Europe, stands in inverse proportion toits importance in cultural development. The bearer of this culture have been described as armed merchants. This rare Bell Beaker Battle arrow head is 22 mms long! Provenance is an old German collection. I guarantee absolutely for the authenticity of this terrific Younger Stone Age artifact. Please view also my other auctions with relics from the European Prehistory. Powered by The free listing tool. 4400Y.O: SUPERB LIGHTER STRIKE-A-LIGHT DANISH STONE AGE NEOLITHIC FLINT DAGGER C
NORTHERN EUROPEAN STONE AGE ARTIFACTS BY PALATINA AUTHENTICITY GUARANTEED Description"Strike-a-Light of flint" Belonging to the Dagger Culture 2400-1800 bc. and the earliest part of the Bronze Age. The last period of the Stone Age. 2400-1800 BC, known as the Dagger period, coincided with the early Bronze Age in the British Isles and Central Europe. Weapons and tools made of copper and bronze were introduced and provided a challenge for those who made flint tools. The result can be seen in the excellent examples of imitations in flint of foreign bronze daggers. At the end of the period, the production of metal implements finally gained a foothold, and there is evidence of an emerging new social stratification. This is reflected in finds from settlements with both small and much larger long houses. Burial customs varied from simple ... moreinterments below ground or in passage graves, to burials in stone cists or log coffins covered with large mounds. Thick blades or flakes with blunted edges often show marks of blows at the ends. Showing that they have been used as a"strike-a-light`s" They occur on Stone Age settlement sites and on flint-knapping sites from Neolithic times. There they are often formed of cores with a triangular or quadrilateral cross section. Lengths of this wonderful artifact is 76 mms. Terrific marble-like flint with fossil includings! Provenance is an old collection. More details will follow the item. I guarantee absolutely for the authenticity of this important tool from the late Stone age. Please view also my other auctions with relics from the European Prehistory. Powered by The free listing tool. List your items fast and easy and manage your active items.

Description The Chinese regard carved jade objects as intrinsically valuable. And they metaphorically equate jade with human virtue due to its solidity, durability and(moral) beauty. Many countries boast a jade ware culture. But none of them can China's long jadeware history. ... moreIn China, jadeware underwent a long process of development beginning from the New Stone Age 10,000 years ago.The patterns of China's jadeware have rich connotations, revealing strong, auspicious colors. Bats and gourds were used as subjects for more than 100 patterns because the Chinese words"bat" and"gourd" sound like"good fortune" in Chinese. When a bat was carved on an ancient coin with a hole, it meant that fortune was at hand; bats coupled with birthday peaches referred to fortune and longevity; bats mixed with sika, birthday peaches and magpies were also considered good omens. These beliefs reflected the ancient Chinese people's yearning for a happy life and revealed the essence of China's traditional culture. Jade in China is varied and can be divided into two categories: hard and soft jade. Good materials provide a strong basis for jadeware carving. But the value of a jade object depends on the skills and reputation of the craftsman, date of carving, peculiar modeling and the owner's status. Certainly, different people will have various views on the value of the same jade object. It is difficult to have a unanimous standard. D

The Sahara is the world's largest hot desert. Over 9,000,000 km²(3,500,000 mi²) almost as large as the United States. The Sahara is located in northern Africa and is 2.5 million years old. Its name, Sahara, is an English pronunciation of the word for desert in Arabic. The boundaries of the Sahara are the Atlantic Ocean on the west. The Atlas Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea on the north, the Red Sea and Egypt on the east, and the Sudan and the valley of the Niger River ... moreon the south. The Sahara is divided into western Sahara, the central Ahaggar Mountains, the Tibesti Mountains, the Aïr Mountains(a region of desert mountains and high plateaus) Tenere desert and the Libyan desert(the most arid region) The highest peak in the Sahara is Emi Koussi(3415 m) in the Tibesti Mountains in northern Chad. The Sahara divides the continent of Africa into North and Sub-Saharan Africa. The southern border of the Sahara is marked by a band of semiarid savanna called the Sahel; south of the Sahel lies the lusher Sudan and the Congo River Basin. Ancient Danish Stone Age Neolithic Type III Flint Dagger - Gotland
A beautiful. Rare and well provenanced neolithic type III dagger, dating to approximately 2100 B.C. and found in Gotland, Sweden. This wonderful prehistoric stone tool was made from a large piece of flint. Broken down and then painstakingly chipped into form, the attractive surface flaking was created by the use of a soft hammer, likely made from bone, or antler. Beautiful stitching marks run along the tools edges, showing where each tiny chip was removed; evidence of the extreme skill of the ancient craftsman. The emergence of flint daggers in late neolithic Scandinavian cultures is thought to be a fascinating response to new technology being used in the production of bronze daggers in central Europe. From the 3rd millennium onwards. This new metal weaponry clearly made an impression on the surrounding cultures of this period, who began ... moreto make flint copies, and who's influence can be seen through their stylistic similarities. This fascinating early flint implement. Dates to the north-west European Neolithic period(approx 4000-2000 B.C. This period saw the dawn of civilization, when Early man was leaving the Hunter-Gatherer lifestyle towards a more sedentary, farm-oriented existence. This transition is one of the overwhelming achievements of man, enabling food surplus and the rise of civilization. Length: 5 1/4 inches. Condition: Good. Tip of dagger broken. Old collection label bearing'Gotland' likely the find site) still attached. Provenance: An extremely well provenanced piece. From the collection of James Curle(1862-1944) of Melrose, Scotland, and thence by descent. Although a lawyer by profession, Curle was an accomplished amateur archaeologist and his name remains one of the most famous in the field of Romano-British Archaeology, having excavated and published extensively in the early 1900's. From 1888-1903 Curle acquired the most magnificent collection of Nordic antiquities outside Scandinavia, eventually selling most of his pieces to the British Museum in 1921. The Curle collection in the

36 average, common-grade Sahara Neolithic points and tools
Lot Description: This is a diverse group of 36 average. Common-grade Sahara desert found tools. This lot is composed of a diverse group of projectile point and tools forms. The lot consist of all the main types including stemmed. Triangular, ovate, and unifacial post as well as other tools. They are mostly from the southwestern Sahara(northern Mauritania/Mali) Th ese tools were used to hunt and process water fowl and other game in the now dried up lakes of the Sahara 4.000 years ago. These tools are of mixed size. The shortest tool is 5/8th inch long(16 mm) The longest tool is 1 7/8th inches(47 mm) The condition is good. There are ancient dings to some of these points and tools, as can be expected with working tools. These small tools were used and lost or discarded when they became too small to use; most are complete. See picture for details. ... moreThe color in hand. Is better than the picture indicates. The natural light somehow washes out the color or maybe it's my photography skills. These relics are representative of everyday tools. Many of these tools were used until they could no longer function well because they were to small to re-sharpen at which point they were discarded others were lost in the hunt. A nice diverse sampling of Sahara tools! Background information is provided with my 2-page essay on the subject. Which will be included. Neolithic populations living near now dried lakes and rivers in what is now the Sahara desert; used these tools in the hunt for and processing of waterfowl and small game. The end of the Ice Age resulted in global climate changes which stopped the rains and forced these Neolithic(New Stone Age) peoples into new modes of existence. Either agriculture which was just beginning at the end of the Neolithic, or a nomadic animal husbandry mode of existence. The New Stone Age was a very dynamic era giving rise to agriculture, pottery, and permanent settlements, all of which were milestones in humankinds march toward'civilized' life. The Sahara Neolithic lasted from 9,000 to

DETAIL: Jade was widely used by primitive peoples as tools and weapons in the Neolithic. Especially in Europe, Mexico, Asia, New Zealand, and North Africa(including ancient Egypt) The best-known finds are from the lake dwellings of Switzerland, western France, and China. The source for Europe’s Neolithic jade remains undiscovered, but it was probably from a deposit in the Alps. Nephrite is very hard and was prized for keeping a sharp edge. In the Americas the Aztecs, Mayas, Olmecs, Toltecs, and other Pre-Columbian peoples of Mexico and Central America carved jadeite for use as ornaments, amulets, and badges of rank. Nearly all of these Meso-American jades are of various shades of green, with emerald green the most highly prized color among the Aztecs. The jade carvings range from plaques, figurines, small masks, pendants, to of course, tools and weapons. The widespread use of jade died out in Meso-America after the Spanish conquest in the 16th century. Here are two nice quality 19th century antique hand crafted/shaped/polished semi-precious jade gemstones. The gemstones were hand shaped and polished by a 19th century Russian artisan.
