4000 YEARS OLD-Near 10 Inch Jade Bi-disc Neolithic-Three Gorges Area of China
This bi-disc is really neat. The pictures do not do it justice. I tried to capture the grooves(for lack of a better word) that run from the center outward. I was told the final smooth finish was put on this using sand. Water, and a string moving the string back and forth to smooth it out. The disc is smooth and doesn't really have grooves but you can just see that this was done by hand. WOW, I am glad things have changed. This came from the Three Gorges area of China that was cleared out by many collectors prior to the area being flooded with the creation of the Three gorges Dam. It is supposedly Neolithic in time period and made by hand about 4000 years ago. Again, you can tell it is hand made. I think it is unknown what these really where but they did include them in burial chambers. Some say they were representations of UFO's that ... morethe ancients saw. Others say the hole in the middle represents the path to the after life. I sure don't know and I am by no means an expert. If you need more pictures or anything else please let me know. Absolutely fantastic item to still be here. Over 3000 years old this vase along with a stem cup I have for sale this week are the oldest items I have at the minute. It has been heavily restored but there are no holes or cracks just incised lines that give it texture and character. Great original paint on the body and handles are very well moulded. These early pieces are incredible because they are so simple but beautiful. This would have been a useful item at the time but to be decorated like it is shows the lengths they went to in the early periods to give the simple items design and beauty.
