Head was broken off and reattached by our conservator. Virtually all of the paint has oxidized/decomposed. A little wear and a few blemishes consistent with any votive/funerary item which is 1.400 years old. Some encrusted dirt which could be gently brushed away with a toothbrush. Large Chinese Neolithic Machang Phase Painted Pottery Jar(c. 2300- 2000 BC) This large pottery jar was made over 4.000 years ago during the Machang Phase(c. 2300- 2000 BC) of the Majiayao culture, also known as the Gansu-Yangshao culture, from present day Gansu or Qinghai province. It is heavily-potted, relatively highly-fired and has a smooth burnished surface. On opposing sides just below its waist are two sturdy loop handles. The decorative pattern, a variation of the typical Machang hand( pattern has been applied with a fired-on mineral-based pigment. This is a beautiful Pot, very impressive! Height 36 cm(14 inches) and 33 cm(13 inches) in diameter. This jar is in exceptional condition with no sign of restoration or repair. Jar with Wide Stripes and Four Fish Net Patterns A big mouth. Lot Description: This is a diverse group of 10 GOOD. Diverse Sahara desert found tools consisting of 5 small stemmed and 5 small ovate points from the southwestern Sahara(northern Mauritania/Mali) Th ese tools were used to hunt water fowl and other game in the now dried up lakes of the Sahara 4.000 years ago. The shortest tool is 1 1/8th inches long( 28 mm) The longest tool is 1 3/8th inches(34 mm) They are all pretty close in size. Colors are better than picture conveys. The condition is good.
