BOOK : British Cutlery - evolution of cutlery in Britain from Neolithic to ....
British Cutlery 160 pages color photos Hard cover with dust jacket 28 x 21 cm 0.955 kg English This lavishly illustrated book provides a comprehensive survey of the design and evolution of cutlery in Britain from Neolithic times to the present day. Over 500 examples of cutlery and place settings are described and reproduced in colour together with engravings. Makers' pattern books and other documentary records. Examples from both the rich and the poor man's table are included providing a representative overview of the cutlery to be found in Britain throughout its history. The book is based on the remarkable collection formed over the last forty-five years by the collector Bill Brown, one that is particularly strong in the early periods often not represented in museum collections. The book is divided into two parts: Part I contains ... morechapters on the evolution of cutlery design; the ownership of cutlery; the use of cutlery at table, and the etiquette of dining; Part II illustrates the development of eating implements across five millennia. Introductory texts to each chronological period cover advances in design and usage and the influences from Europe. Descriptive captions accompany the illustrations of over six hundred pieces, especially photographed for the book. The resulting publication provides both an invaluable reference source for museums, collectors and dealers as well as an important contribution to our knowledge of the presentation of meals at table. 5 'best' quality, larger Sahara Neolithic points and tools
Lot Description: This is a nice group of 5 larger. Better quality, and colorful Sahara Neolithic, desert found tools. This lot is composed of a much better than average. Ovate and stemmed points as seen in the picture. These tools were found in the southwestern Sahara( Mauritania/Mali) These tools were used to hunt and process(as in cutting) water fowl and other game in the now dried up lakes of the Sahara 4.000 years ago. The large blade in the center was probably used as a knife to cut rather than as a projectile. The shortest point is 1 1/2 inches long(38 mm) and is of a reddish jasper. The longest tool is 2 3/8th inch(60mm) The condition is very good. see picture for detail. A couple of very insigificant dings to a couple of barbs. The color in hand. Is better than the picture indicates. The natural light somehow washes out the color(especially ... morewhites) or maybe it's my photography skills. Background information is provided with my 2-page essay on the subject. Which will be included. Neolithic populations living near now dried lakes and rivers in what is now the Sahara desert; used these tools in the hunt for and processing of waterfowl and small game. The end of the Ice Age resulted in global climate changes which stopped the rains and forced these Neolithic(New Stone Age) peoples into new modes of existence. Either agriculture which was just beginning at the end of the Neolithic, or a nomadic animal husbandry mode of existence. The New Stone Age was a very dynamic era giving rise to agriculture, pottery, and permanent settlements, all of which were milestones in humankinds march toward'civilized' life. The Sahara Neolithic lasted from 9,000 to 4,000 BP(years Before Present) I will include my 2-page essay on the Sahara Neolithic to explain something of the Neolithic era and context in which these tools were found. My auctions feature low starting bids. Near cost or below shipping. Your satisfaction is guaranteed OR no hassle money back. Payment Options: PayPal. Please let me know if you have oth
Neolithic Flint Spearhead 43mm - 4000BC (E216)
Neolithic Flint Spearhead Length: 43mm Width: 19mm Material: Flint Colour: Pink Type: Leaf Age: 4000BC Area: Sahara The majority of flints on the market today were found in North West Africa. This is not a reflection on the density of usage of these items but more a reflection of the areas current climate- being very arid it makes it easier to find these items. The Sahara is the world's largest hot desert. Over 9,000,000 km²(3,500,000 mi²) almost as large as the United States. The Sahara is located in northern Africa and is 2.5 million years old. Its name, Sahara, is an English pronunciation of the word for desert in Arabic. The boundaries of the Sahara are the Atlantic Ocean on the west. The Atlas Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea on the north, the Red Sea and Egypt on the east, and the Sudan and the valley of the Niger River ... moreon the south. The Sahara is divided into western Sahara, the central Ahaggar Mountains, the Tibesti Mountains, the Aïr Mountains(a region of desert mountains and high plateaus) Tenere desert and the Libyan desert(the most arid region) The highest peak in the Sahara is Emi Koussi(3415 m) in the Tibesti Mountains in northern Chad. The Sahara divides the continent of Africa into North and Sub-Saharan Africa. The southern border of the Sahara is marked by a band of semiarid savanna called the Sahel; south of the Sahel lies the lusher Sudan and the Congo River Basin. During the Late Neolithic period(approx 4000BC– 2000BC) the Sahara had a much wetter climate(sometimes known as the Aqualithic) and was akin to modern day North America. Arrowheads are typically collected and traded by the local nomadic peoples of the Sahara. They find them as the sand dunes move and they travel around seasonally grazing their herds. Finding and collecting items such as these provides them with a reasonable, stable income. Payment via Paypal only- sorry. Had problems with other methods in the past. Payment within 7 days please. RARE Nice Group of 2 Neolithic Flint Fish Hooks found in the Sahara Desert
This is a nice group of 2 Neolithic flint fish hooks found in the Sahara Desert. Africa. These will make an excellent addition to your Neolithic collection. Always Guaranteed Authentic! Thanks to all our great customers but because of a few not so great ones we now have a 25 day policy. If an item has not been paid for within 25 days we will report it as unpaid to ebay(unless other arrangments are made with me) One third of all our items sold are never paid for so we can no longer be so relax. The Neolithic cultures in Africa existed 4.000- 6,000 years ago(possibly older as some new evidence suggest) throughout regions of the Sahara desert. Before the Sahara was a desert these groups thrived in its vast grasslands and fruitful jungles. Today little in known about these lost people. The sands are constantly shifting moving the sites and artifacts ... moreto different areas. Due to the sand changes, archaeological studies are very slim. Sites shift, tumble and move so there is no layering to study. Collector Grade artifacts are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. Kevin Pipes has been in the business of collecting artifacts since he was child and has been selling them for at least 30 years. He is well established in the artifact and knife communities. 20 Sahara Neolithic points/tools
Lot Description: This is a diverse group of 20 nice and diverse Sahara desert found tools. This lot includes one rarer scrapper shaped like a celts(upper left corner) and one crescent blade underneath it. The lot also contains of all the main types including stemmed. Triangular, and ovate forms from the southwestern Sahara(northern Mauritania/Mali) Th ese tools were used to hunt and process water fowl and other game in the now dried up lakes of the Sahara 4.000 years ago. These tools are of mixed size. The shortest tool is 3/4th inch long(19 mm) The longest tool is 1 3/4th inches(45 mm) The condition is good. There are ancient dings to a few of these points and tools, as can be expected with working tools; most are complete. See picture for details. The color in hand. Is better than the picture indicates. The natural light somehow washes ... moreout the color or maybe it's my photography skills. These relics are representative of everyday tools. Many of these tools were used until they could no longer function well because they were to small to re-sharpen at which point they were discarded others were lost in the hunt. A nice diverse sampling of Sahara tools! The Sahara Neolithic lasted from 9,000 to 4,000 BP(years Before Present) I will include my 2-page essay on the Sahara Neolithic to explai
