The Lost Civilizations Of The Stone Age by Richard Rudgley. DESCRIPTION: Hardback with Dust Jacket: 310 pages. Publisher: The Free Press; 1999) ISBN: ... more0684855801. This title challenges the notion that modern history is far superior to the events and accomplishments of early civilization. The author. A scholar of prehistoric art, religion, and technology, argues that the occurrences and characteristics of later human history have their origins in prehistory. He argues that the system of constellations in the night sky, the use of calculating instruments, and artistic representations all prove that the people of the Stone Age were anything but primitive. Perhaps after reading this insightful book, the reader will come away with an entirely different take on prehistory and its legacy. CONDITION: New hardcover w/dustjacket. Free Press(1998) 320 pages. Unblemished except VERY slight edge and corner shelf wear to dustjacket and covers. Dustjacket also exhibits very mild rubbing(dustjacket is high-gloss black and so shows rub marks very easily. Even merely from being shelved between other books) Very minimal shelf wear consistent with new stock from an open-shelf book store(such as Barnes& Noble, etc. Pages are pristine; clean, crisp, unmarked, unmutilated, tightly bound, unambiguously unread. PLEASE SEE IMAGES BELOW FOR JACKET DESCRIPTION(S) AND FOR PAGES OF PICTURES FROM INSIDE OF BOOK. PLEASE SEE PUBLISHER. PROFESSIONAL, AND READER REVIEWS BELOW. PUBLISHER REVIEW: REVIEW: Award-winning British scholar takes a provocative and engaging look at the Stone Age. Challenging some of the most basic assumptions about the beginnings of civilization, and offering a fascinating and rich introduction to a lost world. Line drawings and photo illustrations. Richard Rudgley is an Oxford-trained scholar of Stone Age art, religion and technology. PROFESSIONAL REVIEWS: REVIEW: Ever wonder what it was like to be a caveman? Whether you are a dentist. Sculptor or accountant, you may have more in common with our Stone Age ancest

British Mesolithic Thames Pick/Adze, From Kent. me2
British Mesolithic Thames Pick/Adze. From Kent. me2 Here for auction is a Mesolithic flint adze. Or Thames pick, this tool is in good condition and would make a nice addition to a collection. Length: 12cm x W: 5cm The Mesolithic period(or'Middle Stone Age' in Britain dates from just after the end of the Pleistocene(Ice Age' approximately 11.600 years ago, to the beginning of the Neolithic period about 4000 calibrated years BC. In England the period is traditionally divided into Early(about 9600-6000 BC) and Later(about 6000-4000 BC) phases mainly based on lithic artefact typologoes and technology. People at this time were hunter-gatherers who practised high logistical mobility within what was an increasingly wooded environment. Britain was joined to Europe at the start of the period. As it was for much of the preceding Upper Palaeolithic ... moreperiod. The English Channel and North Sea were originally low-lying plains, but were gradually submerged as the climate warmed and the ice from the last glacial period melted. Britain became an island by about 6,000 BC. As the climate warmed, the land also became densely forested with hazel, birch, lime elm and oak, and the large fauna became dominated by red and roe deer, elk and pig. Most of the evidence for Mesolithic activity in England consists of stone artefacts. ALL CUSTOMERS* I offer combined shipping on multiple items. 3 Paleolithic Aterian and 4 Mesolithic stone tools - Sahara found
Lot Description: This is a group of 3 Aterian tools and 4 Mesolithic unifacial blades found in the Sahara desert. In the region of Morocco. The Aterian tools were used during a wet period in the Sahara 40.000 to 30,000 years ago. The Aterian culture disapperaed from the Sahara about 30.0000 years ago as the area became dryer and inhospitable. During later wet periods(corresponding to the Ice Ages in northern Europe) subsequent cultures re-popolulated areas of the Sahara leaving behind more refined tool types during the later Mesolithic and Neolithic eras. This tools wass probably used for cutting and scrapping of hides. Many of the times the tips of these points are worked around rather than coming to a sharpe tip necessary for a spear point. It could be that these tools started as a spear point and were later re-purposed into hafted scrappers. ... moreThe tips do show that they were worked into the configuration. Whatever the case they are interesting relics with thick patination and are sand polished from sitting in wind-blown deserts for many thousands of years. Early tools like are very interesting. It was the tools which gave early man the ability to hunt for meat. Meat allowed our brains and inteligence to expand. Contemporary hominids who did not hunt but grazed on plant matter did not evolove and became extinct. It was tool usage which allowed us(Homo Sapien Sapien) emerge and become masters of the world. The unifacial Mesolithic blades were struck from a core at a much later time about 8.000 years ago and were the main tool technology proior to the Mesolithic and early Neolithic era. The largest Aterian tool is 2 13/16th inches(45 mm) The smallest Aterian tool is 1 3/16th inches(30 mm) The Mesolthic blade tools range from 1 15/16th inches(49 mm) to 2 3/4th inches(70 mm) The condition is good. There are ancient dings to a few of these, as can be expected with working tools; most are complete. See picture for details. The color in hand. Is better than the picture indicates. 7200Y.O: GREAT 10 KNIVES DANISH STONE AGE MESOLITHIC FLINT KITCHEN MIDDEN CULT
NORTHERN EUROPEAN STONE AGE ARTIFACTS BY PALATINA AUTHENTICITY GUARANTEED Description These wonderful patinized Danish Mesolithic flint( silex) artifacts are flake/ blade knives! The artifacts belong to the Mesolithic Ertebølle- Ellerbek- Culture( Kitchen Midden Culture 5400-4000 bc) This culture came into existence at the end of the Mesolithic period around 5400 BC and lasted to 4000 BC. The center of the Ertebolle culture is believed to have been Denmark but this people also lived in southern Scandinavia. Finland, northern Germany and Poland, and the Netherlands, which was roughly the same area as where later the Funnelbeaker people and the Germans lived. The Ertebolle people mainly lived from hunting. Gathering, and fishing, they used stone tools and left large piles of shells( kitchen middens) at the beaches that are still there ... moretoday, the shells may have been left there as offerings to a seagod though a more plausible explanation is that they simply used such places to dump their waste. The Ertebolle culture probably also believed in an afterlife because they buried their dead in cemetaries with gravegifts, in Sweden archeologists have even found dog burials like for instance the one in Skateholm, the Ertebolle people also made woodcarvings and used canoes for fishing. Provenance is an old collection. More details will follow the knives. I guarantee absolutely for the authenticity of these artifacts from the Northern European Stone Age.
