Vintage early 1900's Mayan clay Museum Quality Aztec Toltec Idol God figure
Let me start by saying that this item caught my attention and I hope you see what I saw in it. This piece was picked up in an estate sale and is one of the best early 19th century Mayan sculptures made in Mexico that I've seen. The detail in the head dress and body are outstanding. Its made of clay/ terracotta and stands around 8 1/2" tall the darker shades of grey on the head dress and chest seem to be a light grey wash. The top is hollow so you can look inside to see the workmanship. I hope that someone looking for something for their collection like this will take advantage in getting their hands on this fine item. Not exactly sure of what it is, appears to be a calendar or sun dial, Mayan or Aztec.very substantial in a room, Measures 19.5x19.5" and has a depth of about 3/4" on a bevel, the edges are fluted. This is the biggest one of these I have seen, for the metal alone it is collectible and valuable.
