This is a traditional Palin tzute. It was handwoven on a backstrap loom in one wide panel 31 inches wide. Three of the four edges are selvage-finished. The top edge is hemmed. Total length is 29 inches. Background fabric is white cotton, the brocaded designs are mostly cotton floss, but there may also be some synthetic threads. The design in the center consists of 6 images of the same animal(bird? with six legs! The border stripe also contains bird designs. Condition is Very Good, perhaps there are a few loose threads, with one small repair area about the size of a nickel, but no holes or stains. Guatemala Maya Child Huipil Palin Pocomam Mayan Esquintla Now Scarce
This post-1980 daily use huipil was hand-woven on a backstrap loom. The foundation fabric is all cotton. The designs were added during the weaving process using the technique of supplemental-weft brocading. All brocading appear to be of polished cotton threads. Though there may be a small amount of synthetic threads. The stitching around the neck was added after the weaving. The huipil consists of a single wide panel, as is traditional construction of the Palin huipiles. One of the lower edges is selvage-finished(though it has been turned under and hemmed) and the other is hemmed. The adornment around the head-hole is retained, but the side stitches, which make the huipil into a finished garment to be used, have been removed. Big Bull Original hand crafted Mayan mask from Chichicastenango, Guatemala
Authentic Mayan mask which I bought in the outdoor market in Chichicastenango. Guatemala in the early 80's. I believe this to be an original mask used in traditional ceremonies. This mask is unique, having been hand carved and painted by Mayan artisans. The horns are real cow horn, not carved wood. I selected this mask for it's uniqueness when I originally purchased it.

This is a beautiful example of a Mayan artifact. It measures 7' x 3' and is nicely colored in the traditional colors for this style bowl. If not for a stress crack on one side, this bowl would be in perfect condition. The bowl shows 5 seated lords with hands extended out in the offering position, the interior has what looks like 4 turkeys surrounding a center symbol.

This is a Large(15"x 8" Aztec/Mayan- not sure- wood carving in good condition. It looks like it is one wooden carved piece which includes 2 Snakes. A Leopard, and 2 Mayan figures. It has been nicely painted with some nicks and scrapes. But no real damage. Could be easily touched up. On the back. As seen in picture, there is a hook for hanging on the wall. Can not find any maker markings so really don't know what age it could be. I bought this at a garage sale and they were unsure where they had gotten it. Was very dusty. This is a pendant made from a large ancient Mayan(Olmec) green stone bead. The photo doesn't catch the colors very well. It is about 3/4 in. in diameter and about 1/2 in. thick. I had my jeweler wrap i n gold wire. Then. I suspended it from a fine rolled leather cord. The cord fit up to a 16 in. neck easily. So it is unisex. A gold chain will work for this, too. Really nice. Beautiful Mayan sun calendar cufflinks. Front disc is sterling silver with a intricate design of the sun calendar. The back of the disc is marked Hecho en Mexico Sterling 925. Not sure the manufacturer of these it has been worn away. The cufflink portion is not silver it is Alpaca a nickel silver that contains copper. Nickel, zinc. Very nice piece to own. Total they weigh 11.3 grams and the disc measures 3/4" in diameter.

The archaeological site is located in the municipality of Tinum, in the Mexican state of Yucatán. Magic Lantern Slides are one of the best untapped resources for antique photographs there are. Slides were usually discarded after a relatively short period of use so are difficult to find. Slide is 3 1/4" x 4" is in very good condition, and can be viewed by projecting, holding it to the light, or placing it on a light box. This slide can be made into a photograph or poster.
