Thank you for viewing ny auctions! The item for sale here is a Vintage Mexican silver spoon. This is a demitasse spoon. Used for small bowls. In researching this spoon i have seen a few different ideas of what the Olmec shaped stone atop the stem is.jade, onyx, or soapstone. I believe it to be jade. The stem reads"Mexico" and on the back it is stamped"Alpaca, Mexico" The bowl of the spoon has a very detailed(for the space provided) design of the Mayan/Aztec calendar. A great piece of Mexican folk art. That has been kept in great condition. There are some minor knicks to the back of the bowl. Some tarnish that can be rectified with a good polish. Up for your consideration is 3 Mexican Trade Baskets made for the tourist trade. Open coiling technique. I m told that the images are typical of the Mayan and/or Incan cultures. The large measures approx. 12 1/2" high x 20" long base and top is 23" long x 13 1/2" wide x 12" H. The medium purse? basket measures approx. 9" high(14" to handle) x 5" wide x 11" long base. Smaller Ship shaped Basket measures approx. 10" base x 14" long top x 5.5" high(10" to handle) Large has a Man on horse figures with geometric designs; Overall good condition. The handle of large basket has a broken loop that holds the strap to basket. The smaller basket has broken corners and handle. This is a beautiful antique-looking Mayan wall hanging plate. I don't have a clue on how to date this plate other than it just looks really old and would make a great conversational piece in any home. The plate was purchased in Mexico(Chichen Itza) some 30+ years ago. It is 10 3/4" in diameter. 1" in height, and weights 2.01 pounds. The figure carved on the plate is similar to Chichen Itza figures. It has a small hairline crack on the top that adds to the plate's antique look. And I have seen some Mexican art this year that was reminiscent of the faces on this figurine. There are no markings indicating country of origin. This was carved from one piece of a heavy. Hard wood. There is a split in the base that looks like it has been repaired. It makes the figurine a bit wobbly when standing. There is also a very fine hairline crack going half way up the back of the dress of the mother that is in line with the split on the base.
