My father had a Doctorate in Pre-Columbian Art History from USC and traveled extensively throughout the world and specifically in Mexico throughout the 1940's-1950's amassing his collection through his traveling and buying at antique and auction houses. This is a nice Leather Aztec hard case brief case. There is some wear. Please view photos clearly to see the slight damage inside due to its age. It has hand tooled Indian on one side and Myan Calendar on other side with loads of detailing surround focal point. It has a key. Sold as is. It has not been cleaned. But its not very dirty. No brand names are listed on it. It does have a beautiful patina in my opinion. Both front and back are in very good condition. The'roughest' looking parts are the gussets on the sides and bottom from previous use. The front side has the'Indian Warrior" and"Pyramids" as the main items. The back side has an Mayan Indian Calendar. The handles are leather. The locks that hold the brief case together are metal and look worn out. The inside has some slight wear. This large plate measures approx. 11.75" across and has a double boarder of inlaid Abalone shell. The center portion. Depitcting the actual calenar is approx. 6.25" across and has wonderful detail in relief. The center face seems unusual in that it has its tongue sticking out. I am not positive if the base matel is Brass or Copper. There are areas of verdigris patina on the center section, as shown. The back is stamped MEXICO and has a heavy metal loop for hanging. Besides the verdigris as shown it is in wonderful vintage condition. I am sure it would polish up nicely if so desired. P lease view all pictures and take advantage of the zoom feature. Antique Mexican Sterling Silver Mayan Aztec carved black onyx set bracelet& ring
From my family estate very unique and custom looking. Made in 1920s-1930s the set was sold to my grandparents in the1950s as a Taxco sterling silver custom made and maker stamped Art Deco Egyptian revival style/ Aztec Native carved onyx set. See pictures as best description and for weight of pieces on scale almost 80 grams of sterling. The bracelet is stamped with the makers mark and both the ring and the bracelet are stamped STERLING MEXICO. Sterling from Mexico that is vintage or antique may have a higher silver content than 925( they did bot have regulations like the USA that needed sterling available to be readily melted into currency and therefore USA sterling was only 925 until laws changed after 1960. Mexican sterling is at least 925 but can be higher 990 fine silver. In vintage and antique pieces, my test kit only ensures a piece ... moreis at least 925 sterling silver. The set is stunning even uncleared. Being sold as found uncleaned or polished so that buyer can decide on desired patina. The bracelet fits up to a 7.5 wrist with room but can also fit a small wrist size 6 without falling off hand because of the large width/ diameter of the piece. Both pieces are completely hand made. Hand soldered and hand carved by the artisan and the onyx is hand carved in a native Aztec motif. Very comfortable even though a heavy bracelet. Great antique condition. Stone on ring moves a tiny bit(it is an older piece) but is secure and not in need of repair in its sawtooth bezel setting. The locking bracelet clasp is extremely well made and secure. This 7 1/2" long solid sterling silver bracelet is 1 1/4" wide in the front tapering down to 3/4" in the back where the slide bar closure is located. The back side of the last panel is stamped"Sterling 925 Taxco" There are six large panels making up the bracelet. The fronts are accented with gold wash or plating. The raised shield designs include the Mayan calendar. An Indian chief with an eagle headdress, a nude sacrifice, and a totem head. This is a large piece weighing 46.3 grams.
