The piriform body sits upon a ringed base, with a strap handle and tall neck flaring gracefully into a trumpet mouth. The painted decoration depicts a youth shown nude, wearing only a ring of charms from his shoulder, kneeling and raising a ritual wine cup( skyphos) Swirling tendrils border the scene. The shape. Attic wares with scenes of children have long been thought to have been connected with the Anthesteria celebration, an Athenian festival held in late February in honour of Dionysus. Amongst these was a drinking contest organised for the young boys, adorned with charms(as shown on this vessel) who drank from small jugs specially presented to them for the occasion. A beautiful ancient Greek salt plate/dish. Dating to around 400 BC. This lovely. Well-formed dish features a circular, raised foot, shallowly sloping body and wide, rounded mouth. Remnants of original black pigment remain throughout, though some has now worn away, imbuing the piece with an attractive splashed aesthetic. The dish has been perforated through the foot in antiquity, likely so it could be hung up when not in use. These elegant small dishes are thought to be salt containers and became a standard pottery tableware of the Hellenistic and early Roman period. Dating to the golden age of the Athenian civilisation, this stunning piece depicts one of the most popular myths of the ancient Greek world. Of delicate appearance. The piriform body sits upon a disc base, with a strap handle and tall neck flaring gracefully into a trumpet mouth. Up for auction is this Fabulous Pair of Weller Pottery featuring a Pot and Vase. Both pieces feature greek patterns. Each piece has some discoloration and a hairline that can be seen on the inside- not the outside. Each has some crazing as well. These pieces certainly do have some character. There are no chip in these pieces. The vase measures 10" tall and 4" across the rim. The bowl is just under 5 1/2" tall and is 6" across the rim. Collectible Vintage Yelloware Brown Glazed Greek Key Diamond Pottery Pitcher This is a collectible vintage good condition yelloware pottery pitcher with a nice brown glaze and greek key border and diamonds decorating the sides and no makers marks. It measures 5"T x 4 1/2"in diameter x 5 1/2"from side to spout. My mother had it for a long time using it to hold her paint brushes. The only defect I could see was in the piece while being made except on the end of the spout with a few chips.
