Publisher: University of California Press; 1976) This second volume of new translations is designed along the lines of the first Volume. In keeping with the ancient view. It defines literature broadly so as to include monumental inscriptions carved on stone and literary texts written on papyrus. Where the first volume outlined the gradual creation of Egyptian literary genres in the course of many centuries, the present one shows the elaboration of the genres within a single cultural period, and in a relatively short span of time. The literary production of the New Kingdom was much larger than that of the earlier periods. Hence even a whole volume devoted to it can do no more than focus on the highlights. Moreover. In the New Kingdom both the monumental inscriptions and the papyrus texts usually ran to greater length than their Middle Kingdom counterparts. The selection made from the vast quantity of stone-carved inscriptions contains famous pieces along with some less renowned ones. Together they illustrate the principal topics that were deemed appropriate to the always functional monumental context. Similarly the works written on papyrus have been selected to show the variety of themes and forms. The Age Of God-Kings TimeFrame 3000-1500 BC. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover: 176 pages. Publisher: Time-Life Books Inc; 1987) ISBN: 0809464004. The Time Frame ... moreseries was released in the late 80's-early 90's. Each volume undertakes to describe the major events that happened in one specific time period in the development of mankind’s civilization(s) The volumes are richly illustrated. And designed as an introduction to the time frame covered. Especially compelling are the artists interpretations or recreations of what various ancient civilizations would have looked like– their architecture, homes, monuments, cities, daily life, jewelry, food, family life, dwellings, occupations, etc. As just one instance, the ruins of Babylon and Ur, Athens and Rome hint at the incredible richness of those fabled cities. The artist’s recreations in this series are simply mind-numbing. This is as close as you can be to actually having been there. The entire series is truly a magnificent introduction to the history of the era. If you could have just one book(or series of books) to introduce the history of humankind. This would have to be it. The overviews are concise and well-written. Together with the illustration and pictures they impart a wonderful mental and emotional“picture” of what life must have been like in various civilizations and at various times. Done in a style so wonderfully characteristic of Time-Life’s publications, these are over-sized“coffee table” type books full of impressive imagery. The pictures of the world’s greatest art and architecture alone are worth the cost of these books. But don’t get the impression that these volumes are“fluff” While a particular volume might not quite take the place as a university degree, the material is well-written, informative, and immensely intellectually gratifying, overview though it might be. This particular volume, Time-Frame 3000-1500 B.C. is sub-titled“The Age of the God Kings” The material is divided into a number of subjects which will give you an idea of the rich

Greek Pottery Vase Set and Ash Tray 24k Gold accents
I bought these at an antique roadshow. After cleaning them up they looked very pretty. This set of 4 pieces are hand made in Greece and are lined with 24k Gold accents. I am not sure how much they might be worth. They are likely made in the last 50 years or earlier. Some minor nicks on them. But not significant enough to pitch. They have a slight blue hue to them that the pictures might not show. Gold content has not been verified, but likely not significant enough to add major value, but enough to really make them shine. 2 vases and 2 ashtrays look simply stunning and are probably worth more as a set, but I am willing to sell seperately. They have amazing detail for being hand made. Can't find any more like them anywhere thus far.

Brush McCoy Pottery matte green Greek Key jardiniere arts & crafts Roseville OH
Here is a nice Brush McCoy pottery matte green jardiniere with a buttressed rim and a classical Greek key design around the body. Made in Roseville Ohio. This type of form is typical of the Arts& Crafts movement and is based on the popularity of the Grueby Pottery's matte green glaze, which also influenced the Hampshire, Weller, Wheatley, and Teco companies. It measures about 5 1/2 inches in diameter and 4 1/4 inches high. It is in good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs, just a little minor roughness to the foot and a small spot of glaze loss inside the bottom which may have occured in the firing as there are stilt marks on the inside, indicating the pots were nested in the kiln. Unmarked. A good piece of Arts& Crafts matte green. Women & Female Form in Ancient Greek Art, Sculpture, Painting, Pottery
Greek Beauty” By Berenice Geoffroy-Schneiter. Published in New York by Assouline in 2003. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: Goddess. Nymph, muse, or merely mortal, women never ceased to inspire Greek sculptors and painters. Far from representing an ideal beauty of young athletes with exultant bodies, these sensuous feminine models recount to us the ambiguous notions the Greeks had toward women. From a Pompeian fresco of Sappho to a terracotta bust of Aphrodite, and from a pure gold wreath to a bronze mirror fashioned in the 16th century BC, the art of the ancient Greeks seems as elegant and profound as ever. Many of the color plates seen here reveal the fascination that the female form held for Greek sculptors. Showing both the fascination and repulsion, eroticism and damnation, this small work in pictures offers a synthesis ... moreof art and beauty through what is perhaps the most inspired period of all times: ancient Greece. Greek Terracotta Pottery Wall Plate Trojan War Achilles Hector Battle Achaeans
From my collection. This is my one and only Greek made Terracotta Pottery Wall Plate showing a famous battle between Achilles and Hector. I have owned it close to 30 years years. So I guess that makes it an antique. The Trojan War and it's heroes or villains were the most popular theme that Attic pottery makers used. It is around 8 inches across. I purchased it in the Greek Pavilion at the 1984 Louisiana World Exposition which was a held in. Although the fair was memorable for several different reasons. The Australian Pavilion left a very strong impression on me as it stated that there were seven women to every single man living there. Oh yes, and I was 25 years old at the time. The standard Greek Key motif runs around the wide middle. Under the top are recessed Arts and Crafts type recessed panels running all the way around. They are also around the large bottom. On the bottom, underneath the base, are three shallow flakes or chips, They are not on the sides of the base. On the outside of the top, there is a small indentation from the making that was totally colored and glazed over.

Ancient Greek Black Ware Pottery Pyxis Lid Ostracon - 350 BC
A fascinating and rare ancient Greek black ware pyxis lid. Inscribed with Greek writing, possibly used as an Ostracon. Dating to approximately 350 BC. From the early 5th Century. Several ancient Greek city states began an annual ritual allowing the people to vote a member of the political elite into exile. Voters would be invited to scratch the name of those they felt were no longer fit for office onto a sherd of pottery. The sherds were then collected and counted and the individual who had received most votes could then be exiled for up to ten years. These sherds were known as Ostraca from which the modern term, ostracize' is derived. This artefact is the lid of a pyxis. An ancient Greek type of cosmetic box. The underside has been incised, possibly with the name of a powerful politician from the period. A truly fascinating piece. A ... morevery personal remnant of early democracy. Diameter: 3 3/4 inches. Vtg Hand Made GREEK Pottery 12" URN/Lid Jar w Dionysos Bacchus w Nude Male Angel
Vtg Hand Made GREEK Pottery 12" URN/Lid Jar w Dionysos Bacchus w Nude Male Angel Up for auction is very handsome. Vintage all hand made Greek pottery urn or lid jar with and painted scene of Dionysos or Bacchus with a nude male winged angel figure that is also labeled but I can't figure out who he is-it's looks like EPMHS. The urn is 9.5" tall and 7.5" at its widest. Counting the lid it's 12" tall. There are no chips, cracks or breaks but there are some flakes in the paint as in the photos in a few spots. I purchased this at an estate auction and am uncertain of its age. It's a modern piece but I don't know if it's an original design or a replica of an ancient piece. The bottom has some earthquake putty that needs a bit more cleaning some come off completely. Please note that my shipping time is ... moreup to 5 business days as I have multiple jobs and can only ship one day a week. If you happen to purchase after I return from the post office on shipping day it will be a full week wait until I am able to ship again. But most people will have a much shorter wait and some will have very fast shipping. No one will have to wait more than 5 business days. Thank you for understanding.
