I purchased this from the home of a World Traveler at an Estate Sale and do not know the history of these mummy beads with amulets. I researched and asked questions on the boards. Here is what I was told about these beads. Appears to be very old Egyptian Amulet Mummy Bead Necklace made of blue green Faience and strung on string. It has a 17" drop or is 34" round. it has a coarse feel and seems somewhat fragile. I can not authenticate the age of these beads. If you are a collector of these Egyptian beads and amulets. You would know better than myself. Some refer to these as Ancient Egyptian Mummy Beads in other listings on Ebay. There are different sized tube beads. Slender tapering form, a tall broad shaft with ribbed capital surmounted by four short horizontal bars, hole for attachment at top. cf: D’Auria. Lacovara and Roehrig, Mummies and Magic, p.181 for a discussion of djed-pillars. The author writes that this form of amulet“has been variously explained as a column of papyrus stems, a tree-trunk with looped branches and a sheaf of bound cornstalks… Though not originally associated with Osiris, by the New Kingdom the djed-pillar had come to be closely linked with the god, and its shape was reinterpreted as a representation of his backbone.
