Strand of Ancient Egyptian Beads with Faience Horus Amulet I acquired a quantity of ancient Egyptian beads and small artifacts from a deaccessioning sale at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the early 1970s. Several years later I sold most of them to an antiquities collector except for this strand which I strung for myself. Since I haven't worn them in more than 20 years. I decided it's time to let them go. The strand is 46.5cm(16" long) The beads are in excellent condition. Well matched with good, strong color and uniform size. The faience Horus amulet is 20mm tall and has a beautiful pale green color. It is also in excellent condition with no chips or other flaws. There are a lot of second-rate and reproduction Egyptian beads on the market. The best known of all protective amulets. The wedjat eye refers to the eye of the falcon-headed Horus after it was plucked out in a battle with the god Seth and restored by the god Thoth. When the god Osiris rose to pre-eminence as the god of the dead so powerful a charm was the Wedjat that it brought him back to life. Its great protective qualities are indicated by its depiction on the plate which covered the embalming incision on the mummy’s flank. It not only protected bad influences from entering the mummy but it would also heal the wound. It is found in greater numbers on mummies than any other amulet. The colour a dark blue, with the detail marked in black. Pierced in antiquity for attachment to a collar or necklace. Faience amulets and necklaces were made of many different colours. The material was known to the ancient Egyptians as tjehnet. Large Ancient Egyptian Faience Papyrus Sceptre Wadj Amulet - 664 BC
A stunning. Very large ancient Egyptian faience papyrus column( wadj) amulet. Dating to the Late Period, around 664- 323 B.C. Though the wadj was a widely popular style throughout ancient Egypt. This piece is beautifully preserved and is the largest of its type that we have seen. The amulet of an attractive pale blue-green colour and smooth. Linear form. The bottom of the column and top of the shaft with incised decoration in the shape of abstracted basal leaves. The flared finial is surmounted by a ridged stud, reflecting the contemporary architecture of the temples and shrines of the period. This piece is without an upper incision, as is often the case with the largest, finest examples, which were often reserved for special contexts rather than everyday wear.
