It is 5"H. I could have reglued the sword but I was concerned that it would just break again in shipping. it's best that the buyer super glue it and then just stick it on a shelf where it's safe. The break is very neat and clean. The repair should be nearly invisible. Galerius was born on a small farm estate. On the site where he later built his palace, Felix Romuliana.5] His father was a Thracian and his mother Romula was a Dacian woman, who left Dacia because of the Carpians' attacks.10] He originally followed his father's occupation, that of a herdsman, where he got his surname of Armentarius(Latin: armentum, herd) He served with distinction as a ... moresoldier under Emperors Aurelian and Probus, and in 293 at the establishment of the Tetrarchy, was designated Caesar along with Constantius Chlorus, receiving in marriage Diocletian's daughter Valeria(later known as Galeria Valeria) and at the same time being entrusted with the care of the Illyrian provinces. 300 B.C. - 100 B.C. ANCIENT ROMAN COIN - RECENTLY DISCOVERED!
300 B.C. 100 B.C. ANCIENT ROMAN COIN This is a terrific Ancient Roman Coin that is quite interesting. Especially when one considers it is over 2000 years old! It is from the 300 B.C. to 100 B.C. This coin has good detail. It is was discovered in the Middle East by a collector using a Metal Detector. I purchased it from this very knowledgeable woman in that area of the world, who told me the estimated dates. She also told me that this coin was found with several others, buried in the ground. Apparently, Romans who were headed to battle buried their money(since there were no banks) so they could dig it up upon their return. Many did not return as in the case of the unfortunate soldier who long ago buried this coin. This coin laid buried in the ground for well over 2000 years. The coin that you see in the photo is the exact coin you will receive. ... moreI do offer Returns for 14 days. With a full refund. The coin must be returned in the same, unopened, with unremoved staples) Mylar, Vinyl, or Air-Tite case in which it shipped. Of course, the coin must be in the same condition in which it shipped. And between then and 27 BC was officially named Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus. After 27 BC. He was named Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus. Because of the various names he bore. It is common to call him Octavius when ... morereferring to events between 63 and 44 BC. Octavian(or Octavianus) when referring to events between 44 and 27 BC. And Augustus when referring to events after 27 BC. He became the first emperor of the Roman Empire. Which he ruled alone from 27 BC until his death in AD 14. The young Octavius came into his inheritance after Caesar's assassination in 44 BC. In 43 BC, Octavian joined forces with Mark Antony and Marcus Aemilius Lepidus in a military dictatorship known as the Second Triumvirate. As a triumvir. Octavian ruled Rome and many of its provinces as an autocrat. Seizing consular power after the deaths of the consuls Hirtius and Pansa and having himself perpetually re-elected. The triumvirate was eventually torn apart under the competing ambitions of its rulers: Lepidus was driven into exile. And Antony committed suicide following his defeat at the Battle of Actium by the fleet of Octavian commanded by Agrippa in 31 BC. After the demise of the Second Triumvirate. Octavian restored the outward facade of the Roman Republic. With governmental power vested in the Roman Senate. But in practice retained his autocratic power. What is a CounterMark? During the many years that Rome ruled the Mediterranean World. A number of Roman coins were countermarked by various governing authorities and even by usurpers. As one or more of these countermarked coins is almost certain to be encountered by anyone seriously pursuing the field of Roman coinage. It is surprising that there is not at least one comprehensive text available on the subject. Instead, the interested person must turn to the introduction in such general works as Coins of the Roman Empire in the British Museum(the most quoted source) Roman Imperial Coinage, and to a number of articles and monographs discussing various ... moreaspects of the subject or particular groups of countermarks. The definition of a countermark, has for unknown reasons. Been avoided by most writers on the subject. This may have caused some past confusion with such terms as"punched, counterpunched" and"overstruck. So let us begin by saying, a countermarked coin is one which has had a secondary stamp impressed upon it at sometime subsequent to its original minting. This countermarking could be done to a relatively new coin or to a coin which had been in circulation for many years. Because of the need for anyone interested in Roman coinage to know when he or she is observing a countermarked coin. To know the purposes for the use of such marks and to encourage further investigation when such marks are encountered, I have chosen to introduce this subject to my readers in outline form. For this purpose, after a brief introduction, I have listed some of the most interesting and illustrative types of Roman countermarks together with their striking authority and purposes for their use. PUBLISHER REVIEW: The last book in McCullough's series about the Roman Empire follows Caesar's final days as dictator. His assassination, and the chaos that followed. Filled with power struggles, battles, and betrayals, this book is dramatic, entertaining, and even be educational. The sixth and final entry in a series that traces the last days of the Roman Republic, including the events leading up to the assassination of Julius Caesar and the aftermath of that famous murder. Here, that most renowned of Romans, at the height of his power, and Cleopatra, his illustrious mistress, are at center stage. Their legendary contemporaries, including Mark Antony, Brutus, Cato, and Octavian, are also featured prominently. The swiftly moving story is packed full of political intrigue, romance, drama, and war, all pulled together by McCullough's seemingly effortless evocation of the excitement and turmoil present at the end of the republic. Graeme Malcolm's narration sweeps the reader along, even through dense historical detail. Main characters Caesar, Mark Antony, Brutus, Cassius, and Octavius are particularly well interpreted.
