I beleive this is from between 01-399 A.D. and still in the original condition from the dig in Rome. This particular ring appears to take the design of a legionary ring. They have not been cleaned to protect the value. I told you I was not an expert. But I've been around some of these site enough when I was younger, so that I'm not a complete idiot either. lol) I don't know the material it is made of, but it strongly seemc to br bronze by the characteristics anf corrosion detail, but other than go to a ancient/medieval appraiser, which is quite costly, I would rather sell them for a lesser price, to pass the savings to you. Ancient Medieval Crusader Bronze Signet Ring; Rare!
For your consideration is a nice bronze signet Crusader ring with markings that is unique to the Crusaders and or Knights Templars. This ring dates to about the 12th century. And measures 20mm on the inside diameter. It still makes a decent seal, after centuries in the ground! This piece was worn a lot apparently. And most likely worn by the knight or crusader in some battles, as you can see from the small fracture on the top. Bronze is a very hard material. And only a very hard blow from a material equally as strong( like a sword) could fracture it. It doesn't appear to have been caused by anything else, as it was inspected closely. Though the starburst design was very common and seemingly very popular, this ornate depiction of a starburst while not unique, is certainly very exceptional. The bands of the ring are not understated or drab either! As you can see the bands are engraved/stamped with a very intricate design created five raised parallel, again composed of raised dots. Raised dots was the technique most often employed to emboss. Stamp, or engrave small items of jewelry such as this. VERY RARE ANCIENT COIN On offer is this wonderful Roman silver intaglio ring. Set with a orange carnelian gemstone. The carnelian intaglio has the image of a leaping dog carrying something in his mouth. Dog intaglios are generally dated to the 1st century AD, but I would date this one to the early 2nd century from the shape of the intaglio and the ring setting. The silver ring is in excellent excavated condition, with no damage. The Dog was generally accepted as a guardian, thus set into a wax seal he would protect the contents. It could also allude to the goddess Diana who is usually depicted out hunting with her bow and trusty dog companion.
