GENUINE ANCIENT GREEK SILVER NOMOS COIN
This coin is genuine. Coin has not been graded by an independent source. If you prefer this coin to be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity; I will provide it for you but it will take about a month. I don't presently have the time to send it away for grading and would just prefer to give it a try on my own. I am trying to sell it"as is" and let the experts decide on its grade. I have provided high resolution images of the coin. Have done a lot of research and found comps on this type of coin; both auction and retail sales; and have concluded that a fair market asking price would be around $1.750.00. Purchaser always has the right to return the coin for full refund; should they find it not to be genuine. If you read my feedback you can see I have sold many ancient coins in the past and have never had one returned or a ... morecustomer dissatisfied with the quality of the coins. Also. Based on research in auction and public retail sales; an appraisal is attached with more detailed information. If you feel I am in error, please feel free to correct me. Total replacement value includes 6.25% Mass sales tax. Auction fees naturally will differ on final hammer price.

The Mariner's Cross is also referred to as St. Clement's Cross in reference to the way he was martyred. The History of the anchor dates back millennia. The most ancient anchors were probably rocks and many rock anchors have been found dating from at least the Bronze Age. Many modern moorings still rely on a large rock as the primary element of their design. However. Using pure mass to resist the forces of a storm only works well as a permanent mooring; trying to move a large enough rock to another bay is nearly impossible. The ancient Greeks used baskets of stones. Large sacks filled with sand, and wooden logs filled with lead, which, according to Apollonius Rhodius and Stephen of Byzantium. Were formed of stone; and Athenaeus states that they were sometimes made of wood. Such anchors held the vessel merely by their weight and by their friction along the bottom. Iron was afterwards introduced for the construction of anchors. And an improvement was made by forming them with teeth, or"flukes" to fasten themselves into the bottom. The style gradually gave way to the more open Thracian helmet. Chalcidian helmet and the much simpler pilos type. Numerous examples of Corinthian helmets have been excavated. And they are frequently depicted on pottery. The Corinthian helmet was depicted on more sculpture than any other helmet; it seems the Greeks romantically associated it with glory and the past. The Romans also revered it. From copies of Greek originals to sculpture of their own. From the sparse pictorial evidence we h
