Early in the Roman Imperial period, circa A.D. 10, there was an Iranian reaction agianst the Philhellenism of the Arsacid rulers which brought Artabanos II to power. The old Persian religion was revived with great fervor and twoards the close of Artabanos' reign the Greek city of Seleucia revolted. Conflicts with Imperial Rome occured at regular intervals, notably in the reigns of Nero, Trajan, Marcus Aurelius and Septimius Severus. After almost five centuries of Arsacid rule the Persians found a national leader in the person of Ardashir(Artaxerxes) the Sassanid. Best known for having been ... morethe political and cultural base of the Arsacid dynasty. Rulers of the Parthian Empire. The name"Parthia" is a continuation from Latin Parthia. From Old Persian Parthava. Which was the Parthian language self-designator signifying"of the Parthians" who were an Iranian people. In context to its Hellenistic period Parthia also appears as Parthyaea. Geography Parthia roughly corresponds to the western half of Khorasan region in northeastern Iran. It was bordered by the Kopet Dag mountain range in the north and the Dasht-e-Kavir desert in the south. It bordered Media on the west. Hyrcania on the north west. Margiana on the north east. And Aria on the south east. During Arsacid times. Parthia was united with Hyrcania as one administrative unit. And that region is therefore often(subject to context) considered a part of Parthia proper. History Under the Achaemenids As the region inhabited by Parthians. Parthia first appears as a political entity in Achaemenid lists of governorates(satrapies" under their dominion. Prior to this. The people of the region seem to have been subjects of the Medes. Masked Greek Macedonian Spartan Phrygian helmet armor armour ancient Roman
Price reduced from $58 5 to $385. The ancient Greeks started weraring masked helmets long before the Romans did. This version shows a masked helmet more structurally stronger then the leather hinged verity. The mask is held in place by two pins on the inside. It can however be easily converted to the more common type by splitting the mask down the center. Trimming some sheet metal off and drilling and attaching leather hinges to botht the helmet and now the check guards. The face design can also be modified by me in both design work and final execution. I have also added in on the last two pictures, an even more different Greek cheek guard design. The last two pictures and their cheek guards do not come with the helmet but can be fabricated and added on if you would rather have those then the face mask. It is also possible to re-design the ... morehelmet to have more then the two looks. I can even add a horse hair crest etc. and feathered plumes. The helemt as priced comes only as it is pictured however. If you would like me to do additional work, there will be extra cost involved but it can be customized to your liking in several different ways. The Phrygian type helmet. Also known as the Thracian helmet, 1] was a type of helmet that originated in Classical Greece and was widely used[ 2] in Thrace. Dacia. Magna Graecia and the Hellenistic world until well into the Roman Empire. The names given to this type of helmet are derived from its shape. In particular the high and forward inclined apex, which resembles the caps(usually of leather) habitually worn by Phrygian and Thracian peoples. The Phrygian type helmet was worn by Macedonian cavalry in King Philip's day. The royal burial in the Vergina Tomb contained a helmet which was a variation on the Phrygian type. Exceptionally made of iron, this would support its use by cavalry. 4] The Phrygian type helmet was in prominent use at the end of the Classical Era and into the Hellenistic period. Replacing the earlier' Corinthian' type from the 5th century BC.

The immense issues of coinage made in the name of Alexander the Great for a topic which could occupy the pages of a large volume. Obviously it is not possible. In a work of this scope, to do justice to such a subject. As in the case of Philip II, coinage in the name of Alexander continued long after the king's death. No doubt this was largely due to the lack of ... morean effective successor to the imperial throne. Almost two decades were to elapse before Alexander's generals, his true successors, felt sufficiently secure to take the title of'king' and to issue coinage in their own names. Although he began his career as King of Macedon, Alexander spent only the first two years of his reign in his native kingdom, and by the time of his death, at the age of thirty three, he ruled a vast empire stretching from Greece to India. Consequently, his coinage was on an imperial scale, unlike those of his predecessors, and was struck at a multitude of mints in many lands, often replacing an existing autonomous series. nevertheless, the Macedonian mint of Amphipolis remained one of the principal sources of currency. In later ages(3rd-2nd century B.C. the types of Alexander's silver coinage were revived by various cities as they regained a measure of autonomy from the declining Hellenistic Monarchies.
