The repair however seems to have been made with bitumen(tar) which would indicate that the repair was ancient. Some of the bitumen has been lost, so there is a small hole in the side of the bottle. But it appears to have been repaired and reused in ancient Rome– a rather uncommon find. Small jars. Pitchers, unguentariums, jugs, bottles, jars and flasks like this were used to contain aromatic oils, perfumes, medicinal ointments, and cosmetics. It is not to say that the Romans did not use larger pieces of glass on their tables such as bowls and cups; and even larger containers for transporting foodstuffs; because they did. In fact whatever the Romans had produced in clay in the first and second centuries B.C. was by the first and second centuries A.D. more common

Shabtis modelled in white faience are far rarer than those composed of green or blue and were only produced during a relatively short period of the New Kingdom, the 19th- 20th Dynasties, also known as the Ramesside Period. The single vertical column of hieroglyphs identify the owner of this figure as Mes-Hor and read as follows: The illuminated one. The Osiris, Mes-hor. The god was considered an incarnation of Ptah-Seker, and protected the wearer from snakes, crocodiles, and other such creatures. At the time of purchase. It was still legal to purchase Egyptian antiquities, through government licensed antiquity dealers. When I asked the dealer, I was told the group came from a recently found site. The site of an ancient amulet maker. Later. Once home, I realized something was wrong. Although the details were fine and correct, and the amulets represented good quality Period pieces. There were problems with each of them. This particular amulet was a bit different. It represented an amulet for a time a bit later than the others. But. That in itself was not the problem. ... moreTrue, this amulet appeared later in date, Late Period. Likely 28th-30th dynasty in style. Again that was not the problem. Indeed. It's work and detail were especially fine. Likely one of the first out of the amulet's mold. The face and expression of the god is clear, as is his body. As it turned out. I realized. The story told to me was likely only half true. That is, this amulet like the others was probably made in an ancient mold. That much seemed true and clear, but not in antiquity. This example had been made, perhaps 30 years ago today. Not 3,000 years ago. Like the others that I researched. The style was consistent with ancient material. But, I came to realized, something was wrong. The colors and glazes are not quite right, they were'off. And there was one additional, now obvious, problem. This amulet like the others, lacks it's suspension hole in the back pillar. A small detail that my'dealer friend. or his supplier, missed when re-casting the pieces. And one that I missed myself when buying it. Still. Like the others. This amulet does serve a good purpose today. First, it represents probably the finest copy I have yet seen. A better than usual

This scarab is a true study piece for. 18th dynasty scarabs, and is covered with details. The scarabaeus body is properly formed and proportioned. The prothroax(shoulder area between wing-case and head) elytra(divided wing-case) humeral callosity(V' or tick markings on back) the head, it's horn, the detailed eyes, notched clypeus(mouth) side plates are all explicit. Perfectly ... morerendered and executed. Even the placement of hair markings on the legs and the outline of back, are all perfectly done! Truly remarkable. This is not a typical'tourist' souvenir scarab. Indeed. The carver has even gone to the next level! Where, he not only bored this scarab's body through for setting in a ring, but has separated the scarab from it's base. We see, the beetle is free standing on it's own legs, above the inscribed elliptical base. Although this detail is seen with some ancient scarabs. It was rarely done. Except for the very finest of ancient examples. The inscription on the base is an actual hieroglphic text. Containing the the throne name of Amonhotep II. It can be translated as follows: The good god. These Mummy beads are from the Late Period. C.664– 30 BC. The necklace composed is of multi-colored faience disc& tube beads. The Ushabit is of the Third Intermediate Period. 22nd Dynasty, 945- 712 BC. An Ushabti of'Nesh-Tahi' with nice glaze faded to a light green. Black cosmetic details, shesh headband, pick, hoe still strongly preserved in black pigment. Crisp detail. A very nice example. The necklace opened up measures 20" long end to end and the ushabti is about 1" tall. Of course it is restrung with a modern clasp. Ancient ? Egyptian Alabaster Pitcher Fragment From Museum
This is a fragment of an alabaster pitcher purchased from a small museum of world travelers. I presume it is alabaster as it is translucent. But we are not experts in stone. We also presume it is ancient, as these people had lots of money, and generally bought good quality. I can guarantee it is antique since someone penciled on the lip“ Luxor 2/12/18]90” Which is the approximate period when all the items they had were purchased. The sticker, held on with some tape, is the inventory number of the museum. It makes a nice paper weight an has been on my desk for the last few decades. It wants a new home. We have no idea of the value, but we will start it at what it should be worth to a movie prop buyer. It is 2 3/8” wide. 3” long. And 1 3/8” wide.
