A very rare and attractive. Ancient Egyptian steatite bull headed Scarab beetle, dating to the 19th- 20th Dynasty, approximately 1350- 1090 B.C. A beautiful dark green scarab. Likely constructed from steatite or schist, with delicately detailed wing cases, head, thorax and legs. Pierced longitudinally for attachment. Inscribed on the base are the hieroglyphs for: Nefer-rt-maet-re The scarab( kheper) beetle was one of the most popular amulets in ancient Egypt because the insect was a symbol of both rebirth and the sun god Ra. Ancient Egyptians were highly superstitious. And amulets such as this were worn and treasured as conduits to sympathetic magic, used to attract power and protection from their chosen deity. The use of the bulls head in combination with the body of the scarab is less common in Egyptian amulets. The bull was worshiped ... moreas the god Apis, the embodiment of Osiris. A well provenanced. Rare ancient Egyptian bronze amulet figure of the god Harpokrates(child form of Horus) dating to the Late Period, around 664- 332 BC. The name Harpokrates is the Hellenised version of the Egyptian phrase meaning'Horus the child. As such. Here he is depicted in his youthful form with finger to the mouth in a recognition of the Egyptian child hieroglyph. Shown seated wearing the sidelock of youth, sun-disc and tripartite wig. A suspension loop at the back would have enabled the figure to be worn as an amulet. The piece exhibits a beautiful, crystalline patina. Harpokrates was a form of the god Horus. Son of Isis and Osiris. When Harpokrates was born he was attacked by snakes, crocodiles and scorpions sent by his vengeful uncle, the god of chaos, Seth. Ancient Egyptian 'Men kheper re' scarab with cartouche of pharaoh Thutmose III
Egyptian New Kingdom scarab. A good sized Ancient Egyptian scarab. Naturalistically modelled in steatite. The base inscribed with various hieroglyphic motifs and a central cartouche bearing the signs'Men kheper re' the throne name of the pharaoh Thutmosis III. Length 1.8 cms(0.7 ins) Very fine condition with earthy encrustations. Circa 1000-300 B.C. Not all scarabs bearing a royal name are contemporaneous to the ruling pharaoh. Some kings were held in particularly high regard. And thus their name appears on scarabs hundreds of years after their reign. Thutmosis III of Dynasty XVIII was particularly honoured in this way, with his prenomen'Men kheper re' and was used on scarabs for a period of approx 1000 years as a metaphor for good luck and plenty. This is an Ancient Egyptian 12th-17th Dynasty. 1750-1350 BC, hand carved Steatite Scarab on a unique handmade wood base. This ancient scarab is carved out of steatite, a soft mineral known as soapstone. The carving is still very distinct and the underneath features a fish, an eternity(or infinity) sign and another fish. It measures approximately 15mm x 10mm. This unique handmade base is made of dark mahogany with a white dot inlay and measures approximately 2 5/16"W x 1 3/8"Deep x 3/4"H. This ancient steatite scarab is from our personal collection. This exceptional sculpture is beautifully carved in limestone and features remaining black. Red and pink painted details. Isis is depicted seated on her throne with Horus straddling across her lap with his legs hanging over her left side. In this rare image Isis is fully clothed and not baring her breast for feeding. One of her hand is positioned across the lap of Horus and the other supports/holds his back. Her face is beautifully detailed with eyes defined in black. She wears a long lappet wig with a long separate tress ... morerunning down the back. Her long garment features a finely detailed wide collar of three registers in red and pink. Similarly.
