The top map focuses on Egypt, including the Sinai Peninsula. It features both ancient and contemporary place names for each destination- an invaluable resource for scholars of antiquity. I purchased the amulet in Cairo, in the mid 1980's, with a group of similar amulets. At that time it was still legal to purchase Egyptian antiquities. From government licensed antiquity dealers. When I asked the dealer, I was told the group came from a recently found site. The site of an ancient amulet maker. Later. Once home, I realized something was wrong. Although it's details are correct, and the amulet represented a good quality Period piece. There were problems with it. As it turned out. The story told to me was likely only half true. That is. The amulet was likely made in an ancient mold true, but not in antiquity. Made perhaps 30 years ... moreago today, not 3,000. True. The style is consistent with Third Intermediate Period amulets. Here, representing the goddess Sekhmet seated on her throne, with hands resting on her thighs. She wears a tripartite wig, and the double-crown of upper and lower Egypt. All appearing fine. But. As I researched further, I came to realized something was wrong. The colors and glazes are'off. Plus one additional, now obvious, problem. The amulet lacks a suspension hole in the back pillar. A small detail that my'dealer friend, or his supplier, missed when re-casting the pieces. And one that I missed myself when buying it. So. Although this amulet is not ancient. It does serve a good purpose today. First, it is a better than usual study piece. For two reasons. Likely made in an ancient mold. It expresses the correct form and fine details for which to watch, when buying a Period piece. While at the same time, acting as a guide for faux colors and glazes. Both of which a new. Here, representing the goddess Sekhmet seated on her throne, with hands resting on her thighs. She wears a tripartite wig, and the double-crown of upper and lower Egypt. All appearing fine. But. As I researched further, I came to realized something was wrong. The colors and glazes are'off. Plus one additional, now obvious, problem. The amulet lacks a suspension hole in the back pillar. A small detail that my'dealer friend, or his supplier, missed when re-casting the pieces. And one that I missed myself when buying it. So. Although this amulet is not ancient. It does serve a good purpose today. First, it is a better than usual study piece. For two reasons. Likely made in an ancient mold. Up for bid is an excellent Ancient Egypt Necklace. I believe this is a Tribal piece from the Maurya Warriors. Circa 260 B.C. I bought this Necklace from a woman in Murray, Utah who inherited it from her Great Grandmother. She told me it was a gift to her Grandmother, from the wife of the Ambassador to Mexico who received it as a gift, when her husband was serving in that capacity. The silver bead on the bottom looks Estrucan, so I'm not sure how it all ties together. But the carved beads are the top of an Obelisk on both sides. Everything about this piece is symbolic.

A particularly large and intricate ancient Egyptian style faience Eye of Horus amulet. Probably ancient and dating to the Late Period. Together with a glass bead, circa 1st Millennium BC. The Eye of Horus( wadjet) amulet was amongst the most popular of the ancient Egyptian world. Yet this example, with its three tone faience and openwork design is an unusual example. The amulet open-worked. Composed of shimming blue faience with black and white detailing. A fascinating ancient Egyptian bronze mongoose(ichneumon) sarcophagus. With part of the mummified animal still in its original bronze casing, dating to the Late Period, 664– 332 BC. The sarcophagus is of typical rectangular open form. The hollowed out lower section containing the mummified mongoose, carefully wrapped in linen. The upper side of the sarcophagus is modeled with a charming figure of the animal as it would have appeared in life, snout slightly upturned, ears pointed and long tail. The ancient Egyptians believed that their deities could appear on earth in animal form. As such, mongeese played an important role in Egyptian cult practices, particularly during the later Dynasties. They were considered an animal that came from the light, and were often associated with the shrew, an animal that would appear during the day. From government licensed antiquity dealers. When I asked the dealer, I was told the group came from a recently found site. The site of an ancient amulet maker. Later. Once home, I realized something was wrong. Although it's details are correct, and the amulet represented a good quality Period piece. There were problems with it. As it turned out. The story told to me was likely only half true. That is. The amulet was likely made in an ancient mold true, but not in antiquity. Made perhaps 30 years ago today, not 3,000. True. The style is consistent with Third Intermediate Period amulets. Here, representing the goddess Sekhmet seated on her ... morethrone, with hands resting on her thighs. She wears a tripartite wig, and the double-crown of upper and lower Egypt. All appearing fine. But. As I researched further, I came to realized something was wrong. The colors and glazes are'off. Plus one additional, now obvious, problem. The amulet lacks a suspension hole in the back pillar. A small detail that my'dealer friend, or his supplier, missed when re-casting the pieces. And one that I missed myself when buying it. So. Although this amulet is not ancient. It does serve a good purpose today. First, it is a better than usual study piece. For two reasons. Likely made in an ancient mold. It expresses the correct form and fine details for which to watch, when buying a Period piece. While at the same time, acting as a guide for faux colors and glazes.
