During the Predynastic and Early Dynastic Period there is some evidence of the sacrificial burial of servants with the deceased. However. This practice was quickly seen as unnecessary and wasteful, and instead symbolic images of servants were painted inside tombs to aid the deceased in the afterworld. This practice developed into the use of small statuettes known as Shabti(Shabtiu, Shabty, Shawabti or Ushabti) A Shabti is a small human figure representing a person who would perform a given task for the deceased in the afterlife. The Amduat(underworld) included tracts of land granted to the deceased by the sun god Ra from which the blessed dead could receive their nourishment. Unsurprisingly. Wealthy nobles and royalty did not plan on doing any work themselves and so they would take their(symbolic) servants with them. Strand of Ancient Egyptian Beads with Faience Horus Amulet I acquired a quantity of ancient Egyptian beads and small artifacts from a deaccessioning sale at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the early 1970s. Several years later I sold most of them to an antiquities collector except for this strand which I strung for myself. Since I haven't worn them in more than 20 years. I decided it's time to let them go. The strand is 46.5cm(16" long) The beads are in excellent condition. Well matched with good, strong color and uniform size. The faience Horus amulet is 20mm tall and has a beautiful pale green color. It is also in excellent condition with no chips or other flaws. There are a lot of second-rate and reproduction Egyptian beads on the market. Ancient Egypt Egyptian Artifact Fayoum Desert 1979 Expedition Arrowhead Spear 2
Hi. This is a nice looking lithic artifact from the Fayoum Desert in Egypt. Found in 1979 by Michael Crosby. I'm not sure how old these spear points are because of the general lack of knowledge when it comes to lithics from this desert. This piece shows great patina& there is some type of fossil on one side. The bottoms of these usually have are angled. This piece measures 3" long& 1& 3/16' wide.
