There is something enigmatic and very beautiful about this piece, which displays an artistic quality despite its fragmentary state. The head is completely shaven, the eyes are almond shaped, the head slightly elongated in form. When it was first produced. This head would have been painted in bright colours and affixed to a wooden body to serve its master in the afterlife. This Egyptian Scarab seal is in fine condition. With no major damage or cracks. It measures 2 inches long, 1 1/4 inches wide and 3/4 of an inch high. I have included images of the seal all round and hope you can see there is some rubbing, wear to the glaze. Scarabs were popular amulets in ancient Egypt. They do survive in large numbers and their inscriptions are an important source of information for archeologists and historians. In ancient Egypt the Scarab beetle was a symbol of eternity. Rare Ancient Egyptian Alexandria Period Spherical Glass Mosaic Bead c 300 B.C- 100 A.D. Measures 9 mm in diameter by 9 mm high approximately weighs in at 1 grams This is a really nice small Egyptian bead it is covered in limey green with yellow flake glass designs. It has patina and wear probably from burial, the bead hole measures 3 1/2 mm and 2 mm. It is slightly squatted in shape not a true sphere. This colour and design was popularly in the Alexandria period. It looks to be type 471 Lois Sherr Dubin Chart in colour and typical in shape for the period approx but could be later hard to date exactly. This is a really nice colourful example from my collection that you could spend a lot of time looking for. It would be a quality gape filler/addition to any bead collection. The god was considered an incarnation of Ptah-Seker, and protected the wearer from snakes, crocodiles, and other such creatures. This, a beautifully glazed and detailed amulet as seen in the accompanying photos. At the time of purchase. It was still legal to purchase Egyptian antiquities, through government licensed antiquity dealers. When I asked the dealer, I was told the group came from a recently found site. The site of an ancient amulet maker. Later. Once home, I realized something was wrong. Although the details were fine and correct, and the amulets represented good quality Period pieces. There were problems with each of them. This particular amulet ... morewas a bit different. It represented an amulet for a time a bit later than the others. But. That in itself was not the problem. True, this amulet appeared later in date, Late Period. Likely 28th-30th dynasty in style. Again that was not the problem. Indeed. It's work and detail were especially fine. Likely one of the first out of the amulet's mold. The face and expression of the god is clear, as is his body. As it turned out. I realized. The story told to me was likely only half true. That is, this amulet like the others was probably made in an ancient mold. That much seemed true and clear, but not in antiquity. This example had been made, perhaps 30 years ago today. Not 3,000 years ago. Like the others that I researched. The style was consistent with ancient material. But, I came to realized, something was wrong. The colors and glazes are not quite right, they were'off. And there was one additional, now obvious, problem. This amulet like the others, lacks it's suspension hole in the back pillar. A small detail that my'dealer friend. or his supplier, missed when re-casting the pieces. And one that I missed myself when buying it. Still. Like the others. This

She had a large collection of Egyptian artefacts which we are listing throughout the coming weeks. Their provenance is unknown. But given the age of the collection, it is reasonable to assume that these had been collected through her long career in the antiques trade in London. There is no immediate connection to any grave or other place of worship which connects this sale to that derivation. This is a pottery amphora. With some evidence of glaze apparent over the body but which seems to be lacking over the handles. Antique (Ancient) Roman/ Egyptian Lead Tessarae with Image of Sphinx. Coin
This Ancient Egyptian/ Roman lot was cleared from the estate sale of a woman who was a Bermondsey antique dealer from the 1960s-90s. She had a large collection of Egyptian artefacts which we are listing throughout the coming weeks. Their provenance is unknown. But given the age of the collection, it is reasonable to assume that these had been collected through her long career in the antiques trade in London. There is no immediate connection to any grave or other place of worship which connects this sale to that derivation. This is a lead tessarae. Used by the Romans as an informal sort of coin for going to the games/ brothels and as a betting token. This shows an image of the Sphinx which is raised and the edges of the tessarae are raised slightly through handling. This would date from between the time of Christ to about 100AD.
