Vintage, casement window stays salvaged from the windows of a former cream production plant(see last photos) in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The plant was built during the 1890's, however, these most likely replaced the originals sometime during the middle of the previous century. Each stay is made of solid steel. And was originally brass plated. Much of the plating wore off over the years leaving them with a nice, distressed finish. The amount of plating varies from part to part(see"Group photos" to compare) If you are not familiar with this type of hardware. It keeps the window open at a specified distance from the sill. When you wish to open the window, loosen the knob by simply turning it in a counter clockwise direction. Open the window as far as you like, and once you wish to lock it in place, simply turn the knob clockwise until can't turn anymore. This will prevent wind from moving the window. At the point of salvage. The stays were painted, dirty, and rusty(see"Prior to restoration" photo) Since then, we've spent hours removing the paint, cleaning the dirt and rust from the outside of each stay, and greasing them to facilitate their movement. All stays are in great shape with no breaks. Cracks, deep scratches, or gouges. All moveable parts move smoothly. But I am not for certain of exact metal content Embossed 3D floral with greenery design in a circular wreath shape The back is empty or hollow; rather like a jello mold The top has a small metal piece. Antique Neo-Classical window sash pull made by"Y&T" of Stamford, CT finely crafted around the turn of the century. This Gothic pull is made of thick, heavy, solid brass. This pull has designs from the"cologne" pattern consisting of interesting sharp designs on each end of it and compliments the beveled edge of the pull. There is also a pattern of lines on the wall of the recessed cup. All of these features greatly increases the pull's beauty and value. The fine casting is accentuated by an exquisite. Original patina. The beautiful blue and yellow shades and heavy verdigris developed naturally over time. A large pair- each handle is just under 5 inches long. Previous owner of the house had all the antique brass fittings dipped and cleaned hence the bright appearance of the one on the right. One(1) antique cast brass window latch. Overall these are in very good condition. As seen some have more paint that others left on them. I did not clean them becuase some people like the"chippy" look. The paint does come off relatively easy. All of them turn freely. Some need a little more effort than others but all do move easily. These are not solid brass, they are some sort of cast brass because they are magnetic. You will receive 6 screws with eash set as well. Most of the screws are like the ones pictured, I do have some that are phillips head. By chance you dont need or want the screws please let me know. Lot of 5 antique embossed/stamped/pressed gilt brass window valances fragments
Lot of five antique embossed gilt window valance fragments. Probably 1870s or so- Victorian Period. Gilt is either gold or metal and leaf. The metal does not respond to a magnet so I think these are thin pressed brass. The longest piece is the bright one- about 19&1/2" wide and 2&3/4" high. The two dark ones are about 18" long and are of a matching design- they may have been one piece at one time. The other two are smaller. Condition is as found(estate find) and as shown. These are fragments- the two dark ones are beat up and have been cleaned at some point. The bright ones are nice- some minor holes/piercing in one- also shows evidence of a scissor cut. The long bright one is in nice shape. While these are only fragments, a good creative person can find many interesting uses for them. There is an extra keeper and lift in this lot, so all that is missing to make 5 complete sets is the sash lock mechanism. The locks measure 2 9/16" long by 1 3/4" wide when the keeper and lock are attached. The lifts measure 1 1/2" long by 1 5/8" wide, they have usage wear, and one is slightly bent.
