Vintage 1920's 3 Pane Cyress Window with glass from old home in New Orleans
This auction is for 1 Vintage 3 pane Cypress window with glass from 1920's This window was removed from my home dated built in 1927. All the millwork. Siding, and doors are cypress, so the windows are cypress also. The windows are weathered from sitting and from being on the house in need of some painting. Most of the putty was cracked and falling out of this window so I removed the remaining putty to have access to the glass panes.The 2 end panes still have a few of the metal wedges that held the glass in the frame in them. If you purchase this frame. When you unpack it and remove the shrink wrap to get to the foam board make sure the window is lying flat because the center pane may fall out. It has no putty holding it and I am guessing that the panes were hand cut and not quite tight in the frame. The panes DO fit right but not tightly. ... moreI had planned to make a message center with this frame putting magnetic chalkboard in one part. Cork bulletin in the center and white board on the last pane. I went with another frame for this idea. The frame can be hung horizontally or vertically. One side is mostly stripped of paint. This is a frame where very little work would be needed to complete a project. This auction is for one 3 pane cypress window frame. The frame has NO glass in it. This window came out of the recently renovated Old Cotton Press building in New Orleans. LA. right near the port on the Mississippi River. The building has been dated back to the late 1800's so this should also be the age of this window frame. It has had many years of weathering. Surviving several storms and the climate here in New Orleans. This frame would be great for an art piece or craft project or some very old pictures. This window was found at a worksite of an old house that was being remodeled and since I was remodeling my own house it was brought to me for use. I didn't have the height needed for installation over my front door so I have had it in storage for several years. It is in very good condition. Has three window panes that have no breaks or cracks. The frame is in terrific condition considering its age. Nice solid wood frame. Panes are tight with no rattling when moved. Because the window was torn out I did take a jig saw and even the bottom ends to keep it from hanging on anything and damaging the frame and filled the open area with white chalk. Vintage Triple-3-Pane-Wood-Wooden Farmhouse Window Sash-Frame 31 x 28
When I say fresh from the farm. These are fresh from the farm. I bought an old farm house in Virginia and I'm taking it apart to build a 1 room shack behind my house. My wife wanted me to save her a few of these window frames for projects she wanted to do, I must admit, they look fantastic in our home. I have 3 of these listed that she doesn't need. There's still a few left in the house but with winter setting in, it will probably be spring before I finish the project. The way you see them is exactly the way they were before I removed them. I did wipe the dirt off of them and I also took my air nail gun and put some small nails in the corners. The dove tails in these old windows will break very easy if they have been out in the weather as long as these have. There wasn't any glass in any of the windows. The old house has been ... moreused to store hay in and I guess they broke them out to circulate air in the house for the hay. They are not rotted and in good condition except for the paint. All 3 are just a little different so be sure to visit my store to see the others. Let me know if you have any questions. They are not real heavy but their size will cost a little more to ship. Each window comes out of a Chicago Bungalow house in either Rogers Park. Edgewater, West Rogers Park, or Ravenswood. All of these windows and the glass are at least 60 years old as guaranteed by the home owners and their records. Each window has feet on them. Which are about 2 inches long. Some of the windows have handles on them and some do not. Wavy Glass: The glass is not wavy. But it is definitely old, at least 60 years old! FYI. I do not know if the paint is leaded or not! Condition: Each window is in great shape! The glass is in perfect shape! The paint is white on one side and brown on the other side. There is some paint flaking off. But the paint is 90% intact!
