Antique CHINESE GREEN GLAZE POTTERY 25" Fountain Garden HERON STATUE 1910 RARE
An unusual antique green glaze pottery figure of a heron. This is unmarked. But most certainly Chinese, circa 1910. The bird figure is a rare LARGE size. I bought this at an estate sale nearly 30 years ago in Menlo Park, CA. The mediterranean style house was constructed in 1911, and still held hundreds of original items, many of which were oriental. This bird figure was at the edge of a fish pond, and had a water feature that made water stream through the narrow slits in the pottery"reeds" around the herons feet and legs. If you look at the close up photo of the base, you can see where this was anchored to the edge of the fish pond with dabs of concrete. The heron is depicted standing among reeds as if in a swamp or a pond. It is a rare and spectacular piece of Chinese pottery. Great decorator piece inside or out. MEASURES: approx. ... more25" tall and it is approx. 17" at the widest point.from the back to the beak. CONDITION:GOOD+.it has a firing split on the inside. Which BARELY shows on the outside, and this happened during the manufacturing. It is very typical of this type of ware, and pottery collectors realize this.it is NOT damaged. The outside glaze around the base has some water deposits and calcium build up. It of course can be removed, but it indicates years of use.no chips, damage cracks, or repairs.see all pics. Vintage Antique Large Green Tole Paint Metal Garden Flower Water Watering Can
This was discovered in a very old Thousand Islands camp estate and I immediately fell in love! This quaint early watering can is a large 16" tall with the hinged top handle in an upward position. It is 9" in diameter at the base and from the outer side handle to the end of the spout spans 16" The tole can is painted in a earthy green and has a portrayal of cat tails on both sides in wonderful detail. Even the shadows cast by the cat tails and leaves is depicted giving the painting a three dimensional look. Both handles and the top and bottom of the main portion of the can are accented with black pin striping. The top handle is hinged on each side to that it can be raised or laid down on the upper rim. The outer handle has a hollow grip and a thumb rest. The spout has a right angled end. This can has seen many. Many years of ... moreuse and all of it added to it's charm. There is dents, dings, pitting and rust. The rust is most notably on the very bottom(see pic) It will NOT hold water as there is a rather large hole in that bottom. The side and spout appear to be fine. Still, this is such an attractive old piece it would make a lovely ornament in a garden. Use it as a flower pot or set other objects in it for display! And may have never been used, but it is hard to tell for sure. There are some pits(hard to see) in the metal part of the sprayers. Vintage lot of 6 yellow& orange terra cotta garden pots Original used stock from family garden green house Michigan. Family used all terra cotta pots untill the wood& glass house came down.
