The forged iron stakes were used by a real English gardener on a wealthy estate in New Jersey during approx. 1940s-60s. The estate featured a farm and employed a blacksmith for decades. Therefore most likely these were forged on the farm at some point. Both stakes feature a spear at the bottom, one having an"eye" at the top and the other a"grid" to wrap the rope around- the grid is free to spin around, making winding up the rope easy. The simple stake measures 26" long and the larger one measures 28" long. The rope may be original, however I'm not certain. Great antique/vintage metal bucket with awesome blue paint. Wonderful patina with rust. Scuffs, marks, etc typical of age and use. Measures 8 7/8" tall x 5 3/4" at bottom and 6 3/4" at top. There are four tiny pinholes are edge of bottom, so this could not hold water. There are two seams on this bucket that run from top to bottom. Top edge is rolled/folded over. There is a round opening on one side near top(about 1/4" around) making me wonder if this was possibly use to hang on a tree and collect sap? Note that some of the inner teeth are loose but still firmly attached to the rake body. Quite the unique piece. Vintage Cast Iron Farm Pump Antique Old Pumps Garden Vintage cast iron farm pump. It was made by the Red Jacket Manufacturing Company of Davenport Iowa. It appears that someone has recently painted it. This design of pump has the rotating head design. Just losen the bolt and rotate the head and handle to which ever way you desire. This fine old piece would look great in your garden! Approximate Measurements The pump is 17" tall. The base has a 8" diameter. The handle is 18" long and the spout is 4" long. Markings Red Jacket Mfg Co. Davenport Ia. Condition Good condition for its age. There is one area on the handle that has been repaired. See pictures. Three of the teeth at the end of the tines have started to rust away. The two outer tines are not straight. All of the tines are stable and secure. Not loose and wobbly. It's very cool! The weight is 2.4 pounds. I cannot determine if it is steel or iron. The bar holding the tines is 7" in length, the longest outer tine is 9" long and curves up another 4 1/2" I have tried to capture each feature as I have described so please look at all the photos. Antique Hand Held Scythe. We found it hanging on the wall as a decor item in an enclosed. Garden porch at an estate sale. It's not marked for maker or age, my best guess is that it dates to around 1930. Wooden handle. The blade is held to the metal curved part by 2 rivets. The blade is about 12" long, it weighs 1 pound. Condition: A lot of wear on the wood handle; splits. Scrapes a few little paint spots. All metal parts are covered in rust. No dings on the blade, all the parts are tight. All questions are welcomed. Antique American Scythe. Early-20th Century Reaper. Garden or Farm Tool.
Travel back in time with this vintage scythe. From the early 20th century. It belonged to the Ohio parents of the late husband of the 80-year old woman whom I bought it from. Measuring about 5' long with a 2-1/2" blade, it is still functional, though the blade is dull. I assume the wooden snath is made from oak, as it is quite hard. The lower part of the snath is charred, having evidently been used to cut a grass fire. When shipped, I will unbolt the chine from the snath. The metal chine is quite tarnished and dull, but is still in good antique condition. This scythe will look snazzy displayed on a living room wall, like how a rifle is displayed, or just displayed on your porch. It is DEFINITELY a conversation starter. It has a tin litho label and is in very good working condition(as I found out when I pressed down on the plunger and insecticide powder blew out) The plunger button is brass and embossed with the company name. Cast Iron Hub, Axle rod dose not turn, it seems that it was made that way and the wheel is about 1 1/2" wide and axle is about 12 1/2" long. This is an antique gardening tool and is a nice example of an American folk art small gardening farm implement with its wood handle and talon-like claw with 5 long steel tines. The handle is wood in original black paint. The age of piece is evident on how the end of the handle was wrapped in burlap cloth(see pics)this burlap textile may have had a washer or nut over it at one time-please view pics of this feature and area and note. It is in very good used period condition with no holes-splits-dents-cracks-chips-very minimal rust in a few small areas, not bent, is intact and tight and structurally sound and stable, handle not loose, measures approx. 7.5" long x 2" wide, is clean.
