Antique 1920's-30's Planet Jr. hand plow chassis farming tool
Chassis from a Planet Jr. hand plow. Don't know the exact date of manufacture but from somewhere between the late 1920's to 1940's, the heyday of Planet Jr. farm equipment. The handles have been long gone. And the blades and furrows as well. Nevertheless, this chassis is in great condition, especially after i cleaned the rust off and polished it with some stove blacking some years ago. A great decorative piece. Or if you have access to blades and are enterprising, you could probably restore it to working order. Also, you'd need a donkey.

EMPIRE Walk-Behind Plow Garden Cultivator Rare AMERICAN BEAUTY Model Antique VTG
Antique Vintage EMPIRE PLOW COMPANY Walk-Behind Plow Garden Cultivator Rare"AMERICAN BEAUTY" Model This old walk-behind push plow/ garden cultivator belonged to my grandfather. Who lived to almost 100 years old and was a true homesteader. He used this hand plow to cultivate his garden behind the house he built himself with stones collected from a creek bed. The plow was made by the Empire Plow Company. Which began manufacturing farm implements in 1840 in Georgia before moving to Pittsburgh, PA, before the Civil War. They relocated to Cleveland, OH, in the 1890s. The plow is constructed of all steel, except for the handles, which are wood, possibly oak. The frame has much of its original green color left. It looks much greener in person than in the photos. We have not cleaned or restored it in any way, so it retains its weathered ... morelook with some rust and old patina. It's just as my grandfather left it, right down to some mud on the wheel that's probably 75 years old. I am not sure of the plow's age, but I know it dates at least back to the 1940s, as my uncle, as a child, recalls seeing him use it then. On the outside of the right handle. The word EMPIRE is printed in black over a white rectangular box. Above it in very faded letters are the words Empire Plow Co, followed by something else I can't make out. Lower on the handle are the words AMERICAN BEAUTY. I have not been able to find any other examples of this Empire model anywhere, so I assume it to be rare. If you have any info about this model, please send me a message. The design of the frame looks same as the Empire Boy Scout High Wheel plows used by boy scouts to grow victory gardens during WWI. The Empire American Beauty measures approximately 60" in overall length. The handles are 49-1/2" long and 1-3/4" by 1" wood. The wheel is 1-3/8" wide and 23-1/2" in diameter. Allen was born May 5. 1841 into a prominent Quaker family in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After graduating from a Quaker boarding school in 1859, S.L. went to live and work at his father's farm in New Jersey. Young Sam applied his natural problem-solving intellect and mechanical skills to the work at hand. This item was recently discovered while metal detecting on an old homestead in Southern West Virginia. This blade was made at the Lynchburg Plough Company from 1896 to 1902. This is a cast iron V shaped blade. The name Lynchburg 260 is found in the middle of the plow blade clearly visible. This blade makes a great blade for restoration of a horse drawn plow or makes a great wall hanger because of the Lynchburg logo on it.
