Antique Forged Iron Farm Garden Row Stake Pole Tool Plant Rope Guide primitive I believe these are antique garden stakes or poles used to make straight planting rows in the garden. The forged iron stakes were used by a real English gardener on a wealthy estate in New Jersey during approx. 1940s-60s. The estate featured a farm and employed a blacksmith for decades. Therefore most likely these were forged on the farm at some point. Both stakes feature a spear at the bottom, one having an"eye" at the top and the other a"grid" to wrap the rope around- the grid is free to spin around, making winding up the rope easy. The simple stake measures 26" long and the larger one measures 28" long. The rope may be original, however I'm not certain. ANTIQUE HAND SEEDER/PLANTER THE AMERICAN STANDARD Condition Is good to very good showing an operational antique hand seeder/planter. The wooden arm contains stencils of"The American Standard" on the front and"Sheffield MF'G Co. Burr Oak, Mich. U.S.A. and"Patent Oct. 13, 1891& Patent July 25, 1893" on the back. The wood is not broken, split or cracked and the metal mechanics of the hopper work good and smooth. At the bottom of the hopper the metal disc ratchets and drops a seed down the shoot, the spring on the side pushes the foot lever forward and automatically resets for the next seed to be planted. Antique Vtg William Johnson Newark NJ Garden Dibble Planting Tool- 9" Cast Iron
Antique hand tool for bulb planting. Made by William Johnson, Newark NJ. It's seen a lot of use and has a vintage patina, but it is in good functional condition. The underside of the handle has some scratches on it, as shown in photo 4, and there's a slight gap between the two sections of the handle(photos 4 and 5) but it's very very tight and even trying as hard as I can, they're not moving. Because of that gap, it appears as though some dirt got inside the handle. I can hear it rattling when I shake it hard, and I was able to get some of it out, but there's still some in there. Antique Hand Held Scythe. We found it hanging on the wall as a decor item in an enclosed. Garden porch at an estate sale. It's not marked for maker or age, my best guess is that it dates to around 1930. Wooden handle. The blade is held to the metal curved part by 2 rivets. The blade is about 12" long, it weighs 1 pound. Condition: A lot of wear on the wood handle; splits. Scrapes a few little paint spots. All metal parts are covered in rust. No dings on the blade, all the parts are tight. All questions are welcomed. Antique American Scythe. Early-20th Century Reaper. Garden or Farm Tool.
Travel back in time with this vintage scythe. From the early 20th century. It belonged to the Ohio parents of the late husband of the 80-year old woman whom I bought it from. Measuring about 5' long with a 2-1/2" blade, it is still functional, though the blade is dull. I assume the wooden snath is made from oak, as it is quite hard. The lower part of the snath is charred, having evidently been used to cut a grass fire. When shipped, I will unbolt the chine from the snath. The metal chine is quite tarnished and dull, but is still in good antique condition. This scythe will look snazzy displayed on a living room wall, like how a rifle is displayed, or just displayed on your porch. It is DEFINITELY a conversation starter. It was used on the farm primarily to rid chickens of lice. But was also used in the garden to apply insecticide to plants. It dates, I would guess, to the late 1800s. It has a tin litho label and is in very good working condition(as I found out when I pressed down on the plunger and insecticide powder blew out) The plunger button is brass and embossed with the company name.
