Pair of Antique Victorian Brass Teardrop Window Handles - Large - Circa 1860
Straight from the contents of a recent clearance is beautiful pair of antique brass teardrop window handles. Dating to around the 1860's these are very ornate. A large pair- each handle is just under 5 inches long. Previous owner of the house had all the antique brass fittings dipped and cleaned hence the bright appearance of the one on the right. Up for auction is a pair of very old wood louvered exterior shutters in a deep sea green but has other older prior paint colors chipping in areas. They are from the era when shutters were made with wooden pegs(see photo#5) All the slats are adhered and in good condition but they do not louver. There are a total of 30 slats. 15 from the top, 15 on the bottom. The reverse side(photo#3& 5) has the original hardware. They measure 62" in length and 16" wide. A pair ca 1880 Victorian 1" in diameter sulfide glass picture hangers or curtain tie backs with stunning yellow/gold color. They have a star center with a beaded brass surround. The glass medallions are 5/8" in diameter and rise 1/16" from the rim of the surround. The nails screw into the back of the medallions and different lengths. 2 1/4" 2 3/4" There are some tiny dents on the brass as shown. They are unsigned but are most likely from a maker like P. E. One side is red and the other side is a darker red-like a maroon. This is one complete pair. The shutter hardware is included but I don't have the hardware that attaches to the house. They are the mortise and tenon design and feature wooden peg joinery. These are in very good condition for their age. The frames are still tight and rigid with a little bit of weakness where the latches are on the bottom. The latch on the bottom of the left shutter is loose and will have to be strengthened. The hinges and locks are attached to the shutters but I don't have the other hinge that attaches to the house. These are stained. Dusty, dirty, scuffed, etc. Probably the original finish-not refinished. Pair Antique Victorian Shutters 27 1/4" x 58 1/4"
This is a good pair of antique Victorian shutters. They date to around the turn of the century and feature rugged pinned mortise and tenon joinery. These have the original hinge pin hardware as well as a bottom latch. The louvers are free and movable on one side and the other side will require a minor amount of work to free them up. These are very solid however there is a small amount of dry rot on the bottom which I have photographed. Each individual shutter is under 14 inches wide so the combined width for the pair overlapped is stated above. Depending on your chosen use. You may wish to refinish these with some wood putty. The shipping price includes good packaging and insurance. Please note that these are antique wooden shutters probably over 100 years old. There may be some scrapes scratches. Or gouges in the wood.
