Penn Antique Restoration. 12" Antique"Yale" Solid Cast Brass Window Stay. Rare. Antique, casement window stay made by, Yale& Towne, of Stamford, CT sometime during the first half of the previous century. It is made entirely of solid, heavy, thick, cast brass, not plated steel. Originally, it was copper-plated, however, most of the plating wore off over the years and only traces of copper could be seen here and there. If you are not familiar with this type of hardware. It keeps the window open at a specified distance from the sill. When you wish to open the window, loosen the knob by simply turning it in a counter clockwise direction. Open the window as far as you like, and once you wish to lock it in place, simply turn the knob clockwise until can't turn anymore. This will prevent wind from moving the window. For sale is an unusual circa 1890's window latch. it's constructed of solid brass with a cast iron spring. The latch and spring still work very well and have a good snap. I was unable to find another latch just like this one and believe it to be an obscure design. Mounting base on latch measures 2-1/2" X 11/16" Being sold as is. The BIN is for one(1) of the pictured handles. These are cast brass and solidly made and nothing like the cheaply made imports of today that use some type of cheap pot metal. The condition is good but all will need a finale clean up to remove the old paint that is still remaining. But if shinny and bright is your thing then these would polish up superbly ... moreusing a buffing wheel with a dab of brass polish on a power drill. These would work great on windows or screen doors or on drawers. The grasp has a 2 ¾” grip opening or what I would call an average size hand 3 finger pull.
