ancient pottery wine pitcher Greek ? Roman ? antique old primative jug vintage
This came out of an old Camden maine estate here in Maine. Very old piece of pottery. My guess is European maybe Greek. From other examples I have seen probably a wine pitcher. I am no expert in this field. You can see the years of ware at the spout top and bottom. Could be Roman I dont know. What you see is what you get. Piece stands 7" high with about a 5" diameter at large point. No cracks still holds water. Wear around spout as shown in pictures.

Ancient Greek Daunian style painted terracotta ceramic vessel pottery jug ?
Normal 0 false false false EN-GB X-NONE X-NONE Ancient Greek Daunian style painted terracotta ceramic vessel. Probably a jug. Glazed. Painted geometric ornament in black. Brown and cream. Age unknown. I have no experience of handling Greek pottery so I am reluctant to express an opinion on its age. All I can say for certain is that it is not new. Provenance: previously belonged to a man in London who acquired it before 1980. I purchased it at an auction in England. 773 grams. 15.5cm(6" high. Very good condition for age. Large chip to rim. Paint is rubbed or missing from patches revealing terracotta body beneath. Ingrained dirt to much of body. International postage is now very expensive. If the postage cost is less than shown then I will refund the difference. I want all my customers to be happy. Returns accepted.
Ancient Greek Apulian Red Figure Pottery Epichysis Wine Jug - 340 BC
An ancient Greek Apulian epichysis(wine jug) Dating to 340- 320 BC. The epichysis of classic form. With a contained, soapbox-like body and long elegant handle, neck and pouring spout. The painted scene showing a reclining lady, her hair dressed in a kekryphalos. Wearing a beaded necklace and bracelets, dressed in a flowing chiton, holding out a patera in her right hand and a branch of leaves in the left. Palmettes border the scene. Scrolling around the rim is a beautiful band of laurels. Surely one of the most beautiful forms of ancient Greek pottery. The epichysis is lithe and expressive. And has all the vibrancy one would expect from a vessel used in the consumption of alcohol. The painted scene on this example is wonderfully evocative, and finer than many examples from the period. Height: 6 ½ inches. Condition: Very good. Handle reattached. ... moreExcellent preservation of the original pigment.
