An ancient Greek Illyrian bronze hoplite helmet. Dating to around 550-500 BC. The helmet is of typical Illyrian form. With open face, pronounced cheek-flaps, ... morehigh-dome and neck-flap. A perforation in the front centre and two above the neck flap would have been used to secure a tall feather crest in antiquity, originally running between the ridges on the dome of the helmet. The entire perimeter of the helmet is fixed with a number of bronze rivets, which would have secured an inner lining, long since perished. Illyrian type helmets are so named owing to their believed original place of manufacture in and around the region of ancient Illyria. Located in the western Balkan Peninsula. They were adopted by the Greeks and became the primary helmet type used throughout the 5th Century BC. The Greek hoplite. The archetypal spear-armed warrior, is perhaps the most prevalent figure in our view of the Golden Age of ancient Greek civilisation. Here we are confronted with the reality, broad and powerful, when combined with the huge crest which would have emerged from the top, the individual wearing this imposing helmet would have been a formidable sight. Height: 9 ⅜ inches. Condition: Good. Composed from sections. With restorations in places. With an attractive, deep malachite patina. Provenance: Ex. German private collection. Acquired 1960's. Authenticity All items are unconditionally guaranteed to be Authentic as described. For added security we offer a full money-back guarantee if a recognized authority disputes the authenticity of any object sold. We send paper invoices incorporating a signed certificate of authenticity and photograph of the item. Shipping We send all collectibles Registered. Signed-for and Insured. APHRODITE- ANCIENT ARCHAIC GREEK OR PHOENICIAN BOAT MODEL
Culture- Greek/ Phoenician. Date- 6th- 4th Century B.C. Material- Terracotta. Condition- Intact. Provenance- Ex: Early private collection. Measurements- 9.5 inches long(24.2 cm. Depicting a merchant ship with an upturned prow and stern. The hull consists of an oarsman and two benches infront. With traces of pigmentation visible. Ancient Greek Archaic Period Bronze Illyrian Hoplite Helmet - 550 BC
An ancient Greek Illyrian bronze hoplite helmet. Dating to around 550-500 BC. The helmet is of typical Illyrian form. With open face, pronounced cheek-flaps, high-dome and neck-flap. The archetypal spear-armed warrior, is ... moreperhaps the most prevalent figure in our view of the Golden Age of ancient Greek civilisation.
