Hellenistic Greek Miniature Oil Lamp CULTURE/ REGION OF ORIGIN: Eastern Mediterranean. DATE: Late Hellenistic Period. 1st Century BCE. DIMENSIONS: 4.2 cm(1.65 in. long. DESCRIPTION: Intact. A miniature wheel made ceramic oil lamp of late Hellenistic form. The simple form includes a wick hole at the tip. A circular fill hole inside a slightly raised disc in the upper center of the body and a plain flat base. The lamp is formed from fine grained reddish brown clay. The surfaces are clean with only minimal traces of soil encrustation.Probably intended solely for funerary use. PROVENANCE: Ex UK private collection through 2005.
