Heavy Roman bronze bracelet circa 1st century A.D. from the Province of Judaea. As you can see(with some difficulty, but look particularly at the middle of the bracelet and one end) the surface of the bracelet bears a fairly complex series chevrons(V” engraved into the top surface of the bracelet, done in such a manner that the point of the inverted“V” is at the very apex of the slightly crowned band, so one arm of the“V” drops to either side of the band. It was when created a fairly sophisticated and surely costly bracelet. The bracelet was not recovered entirely intact, as you can see, but originally it would have been of a reasonable good size considering the slight build of ancient Romans(the ancient population tended to be considerably smaller than contemporary populations) Originally the two ends of the bracelet would have come close to meeting one another. However the trailing ends of each side by their nature were quite thin and fairly fragile, and susceptible to loss through either breakage or corrosion. The tip of one of the two ends was broken off and lost in antiquity, or simple corroded away. The other side the end was fractured and then

Ancient Hellenistic Greek Bronze Ring with Grasshopper Motif 500-300 BC
About The Greek Jewelry Greek jewelry. Etruscan jewelry and other Italian jewelry made in the time between about 850 BC and about 500 BC(called the archaic period, was inspired and greatly influenced by Egyptian and Assyrian examples brought by Phoenician merchants who were crisscrossing the Mediterranean Sea by this time. The techniques remained basically the same as the earlier Egyptian and Assyrian styles though embossed or stamped plates of gold and silver became a predominant basic element. Granulation in gold continued and was developed in Etruria to a remarkable degree of delicate refinement. In the Classical Greek period. 5th and 4th centuries BC(480 BC– 338 BC) granulation went out of fashion. Enameling was re-introduced and filigree became predominant. Classic Greek jewelry was delicate and very refined. In the Classical period ... moreof ancient Greek jewelry manufacture there was little jewelry actually made in Greece itself but so splendid is its quality and technical prowess that it is considered to be miniature sculpting. And a fine expression of the breadth of the artistic creations of this `Golden Age' Flowers and tassels were a common motif for gold chain necklaces, and hoop earrings held delicate filigree discs and rosettes. Such pieces are available to the modern day collector. During the Hellenistic Age(330-27 BC) After the conquests of Alexander the Great, rather opulent gold pieces with precious and semi-precious stones became popular. Greek jewellery design and manufacture was influenced by the"new" of Oriental influences of the conquered lands as well as a revival of interest in Egyptian themes and styles. Greek jewelry of the Hellenistic Age saw small gold workings fashioned into pendant vases. Little delicate winged victories, cupids, and doves becoming common motifs. At the same time, an important innovation into Greek jewelry manufacture was the introduction of quite large colored stones, especially garnets, as a center-piece of designs. This style was copied by the Romans, who

Ancient Greek Hellenistic Egyptian 300 B.C. 100 A.D. Medical Bronze Cupping Vessel Search A very Rare Ancient Greek-Hellenistic Egyptian circa. 300 B.C. 100 A.D. Bronze cupping vessel of compressed globular form with a short trumpet neck. Greek sikua Latin: cucurbitulae) Cupping was a popular Roman practice. Which aimed to draw poisonous substances and'vicious humours' from the body. A cup containing a piece of burning cloth was pressed onto the skin. The burning used up the oxygen in the air in the cup, producing a partial vacuum, which powerfully sucked the cup on to the body. Dry cupping was performed on unbroken skin; wet cupping covered a wound or deliberate incision, and drew out blood, pus and other body fluids. CONDITION: Broken with holes. BRONZE BUST OF WOMAN, HELLENISTIC PERIOD (323 BC - 31 BC), NEAR SYRACUSE, SICILY
BRONZE BUST OF WOMAN. HELLENISTIC PERIOD(323 BC- 31 BC) NEAR SYRACUSE. SICILY Height of Bronze: 2" Height of Base& Bronze: 3 1/4" Width of Bronze: 1" Depth of Bronze: 1 1/4" Total Weight: 6.6 oz This fascinating bronze bust of a Hellenic Period woman was uncovered in the 19th century in a field south of Syracuse. Sicily by a farmer working the land. It was brought to this country during the great immigration of Sicilian peasants during the late 19th/ early 20th centuries-passing through Ellis Island in New York City Harbor. I acquired this piece from a Far Rockaway. New York descendant of the finder-her GG. grandfather. Somewhere along the preceding 130 years or so. A family member inserted this precious treasure into a plexiglass base-where it was then displayed on a faux-fireplace mantle for decades. The Hellenistic ... moreGreek Period is formally listed as those years between 323 BC and 31 BC. It was a time of major Greek cultural influence and power. Where the country experienced great prosperity and progress in the arts, exploration, literature, theatre, architecture, music, mathematics, philosophy, etc.all the things we always look back to this culture with a wistful smile. However. Much earlier, there was a major migration to the southeastern section of Sicily whereby Greek colonists build trading posts. Towns, temples and mingled with the local population. The town of Syracuse. For example, had been founded in 733 BC. Syracuse was a thriving place. Many Mediterranean cultures flocked there for the art. The science, the theater and the climate. From years of archeological excavation we do know that little bronze heads were an ever present feature in domestic lives. They probably had them scattered around their homes just like we place little. Adorable knick-knacks on end tables and such. Or. As some scholars suggest, these busts are the actual representations of their owners. How cool would that be? The current. Hefty bronze bust is in good condition, though, from lying in the soil for cen

Ancient Hellenistic Bronze Ring Carved Lapis Lazuli Depicting Eros 332-58 BCE
Ancient Hellenistic Bronze Ring Carved Lapis Lazuli Depicting Eros 332-58 BCE Greek jewelry. Classic Greek jewelry was ... moredelicate and very refined. In the Classical period of ancient Greek jewelry manufacture there was little jewelry actually made in Greece itself but so splendid is its quality and technical prowess that it is considered to be miniature sculpting. At the same time, an important innovation into Greek jewelry manufacture was the introduction of quite large colored stones, especially garnets, as a center-piece
