$100.00 Shipping Location: Tolland, United States A very rare piece of history- removed from the Connecticut state capitol in the late 1970's early 1980's during a major renovation of the 1879 ... moregothic victorian grand building constructed in Bushnell Park(formerly Trinity college property) Prior to the construction of this building- Connecticut had two state capitals: one in New Haven. One in Hartford- after centuries of the state government alternating it's location yearly- a legislative act was passed locating the seat of state government in Hartford(of course the citizens of Hartford sweetened the pot with a $500,000 gift towards the construction of a new building! A site was chosen and paid for by the state- 6 years of construction overruns. And finally in 1879 a brand new $3.2 million dollar building was opened- the building was one of the top ten architectural wonders of it's period. A century of wear and tear caught up with the building in the 1970's and luckily the leaders of the time thought better than to tear it down- instead they spent close to $20 million to refurbish the building. This cresting- original to the building was made by Taylor& Fenn in East Windsor. CT- and recast in the early 1980's(by the same company! for the replacement iron was put back on the roof! provenance can be provided in a book commissioned by the Old State House association! This table was hand crafted by an artisan- using the original cast iron cresting panel. Measures approximately 27" long by 13.25" wide x 20" high. Will look AWESOME with piece of glass(we have a few of these on our patio and deck area! Gives great look to outdoor decorating. Will need to be delivered(about $100 in most places) or can be picked up in the Hartford CT region. Will bring to Brimfield if desired also! I just loved the way you can arrange them- from a flower, to an N, to a triangle to a 3 bladed fan.the ... morepossibilities are limited to your imagination! Each on measures 16 1.2" long, 2 1/2" widest and has a 3/4" hole in the center, with a 1/4" hole on either side. Each one weighs 2 1/4 lbs- so they are heavy. They have just the remnants of gold colored paint, that goes great with the darkened patina of the steel and the light surface rust that cen be seen all over- more of a covering in the center of the blades, and more spotty on the outside edges of the blades. They are in excellent solid and sturdy condition structurally, with no cracks or structural issues that I can find. I do see a CC mark that I think may be for Cub Cadet. These would look so cool hanging on the wall, or even inserted in the ground for your own whimsical iron sculpture! They are barn fresh dusty/dirty and could use a good cleaning. Love the LOOK! This VINTAGE Plant Stand has just been restored and is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! Can be used indoors or out. From the early 1900's. It has beautiful Art Nouveau legs/ feet with three 1-1/2" floral rosettes holding each of the rings to the legs. Each leg is 3/16" thick X 3/4" wide steel. Most people would incorrectly identify or refe to this as wrought iron, but it actually is made of steel. Stands 44" tall. The top secion will hold a pot approx 6" to 8" in diameter(the arms can be slightly bent for adjustment) and is about 6" from the bottom to the scroll. The center section is approx 28" between rings) and tapers from 3" diameter ring at the top to 6" diameter ring at the bottm. The bottom ring is approx 8" off the floor and the legs are approx 15" diameter. It was in good condition ... morewhen found but had so many layers of paint that the detail of the flowers couldnt be seen. Vermont Hand made Steel & Iron Plant Stand ~ Great Patina and Ironwork
Description: Here is a great little folk art piece that I picked up in rural Vermont. The man who sold it to me said it was made by his dad’s uncle in the 1950’s in the farm’s forge. It was a maple sugar farm and the uncle used to shoe his own work horses and would make things out of metal as a hobby. He told me that the scroll work was made from old iron bands used to strengthen crates from a local mill and that the octagon plant stages were cut out from old sap buckets. It is very well made with the stages welded onto the iron scroll work. The scroll work has a nice“hard” rust patina and the stages have that nice grey color that you get on old galvanized buckets and wash tubs. It has a great look as you can tell from my pictures. Please use my pictures to judge the color and condition for yourself.
