This vintage reproduction is made just like the antique toys of the late 1890s to early 1900s. This piece was probably made in the 1970’s. It is cast iron. And since it is not a pricey antique, you can actually put it in the yard, or garden for décor. It is a cast iron horse attached to a cast iron mail wagon. The wheels actually work. Too. Size: approx 7 inches long. 3 inches high and approx 2 3/4 th inches wide. Condition: Some paint wear with chipping at the very top of the wagon and on the sides. Wheels still even turn. I just found them again and now is the time to get rid of them to someone that can use them. I have never seen Buggy Steps this large. Most of the ones I have seen are not even half this size. Probably off a large stagecoach. Such as a Well Fargo Stage Coach? What I have is what you see in the photos. These are rather large. They are 29 inches long overall from one end to the other end. If they were mounted. The step-down is apprx 10 inches from the T-shaped bracket to the foot pad. The squarish foot pads are in wonderful shape and are also equally large. I am offerning this beautiful antique Cast Iron Horse Head Fence Topper or Hitching Post. When I purchased this I was told it dated between 1890 and 1920. The topper still has the original ring. This topper weighs almost 8 pounds and is 9" tall x 7" wide(nose to mane) The bottom that attches to the fence or post is flanged. The opening is 2-1/2" in diameter and the flange above the opening is approximately 4" in diamter. The piece shows some age but still a beautiful piece of metal work. I have been trying to find out more information on this planter and 3 other ones mfg. by Cole. With no luck. This planter has wooden handles and I believe the rest is made of cast iron. When pushed or pulled all the parts move too. We have had this in our garage for about 15 years, my husband kept it oiled to keep it from rusting. My husband recently passed away; therefor I need to sell as much of our unused items to save the farm. This is much to heavy to mail. So it's for local pick up only. A storage barn of an antiques dealer that passed about 10 years ago. She specialized in early primitives and American folk art and boy-oh-boy you do not want to miss this week. I took photos of the items that I bought for one full day, and still am not finished– but decided to go ahead and list what I have– enjoy! Gosh. I just realized that I haven't even started on any of the garden items from the auction- I bought a lot of those too- this is my first one I'm listing, but I'll hurry to get up more soon- I got some very cool unique pieces. This one, not as unique as the others, but still very primitive and cool. It's an antique horse head hitching post top(post not included) a real deal ... moreoldee- not one of the manymany repros that you see today. Made of cast iron, he weighs 8 1/2 lbs heavy and is in excellent solid and sturdy condition structurally. I'm asking if he has a maker's mark in my title because he has a relief diamond on both sides behind his eye- it looks to have dots inside of it too. I couldn't find another exactly like this so was wondering if indeed it's a mark of the maker? He has a beautiful white finish that is shabby, chippy and worn all over, and you can see the darkdark patina of the iron mixed with old dark surface rust in many spots- that's heaven to me! His hitching loop is not painted, so you just see the dark dark iron that actually looks black in some lights- looking closer- it could have been painted black on the ring at one time- just from the peeks of the black. The ring is actually not a ring, it's more of a rounded V shape, and it's open at the top- not soldered all the way- I don't know if you could remove it if you wanted to(maybe with some crafty wiggling, I don't know) but I wanted you to know that it's open in his mouth- I can see when I peek inside and it's about 1/4" of space o

Straight off the farm of the Missouri Foot Hills. An Antique Horse Head Hitching Post Topper. There was a pair at one time, the mate was stolen. This one that is left has been around for 4 generations. Made from Cast Iron, this piece has a single seam down the middle and and signs of hand forging on the face and neck. Its details are so beautiful and the Horses Mouth holds the ring that once tied off horse reins. This relic would make a fine piece of Art to display in your home on a coffee table or Book Shelf. The bottom once was connected to a pole and the fragments of the welding can still be seen on the bottom(picture 6) There is a piece of cast that makes it rock a little when pulling or pushing. The piece is very heavy and stands up fine as is. The base has a very nice zig-zag design to add character and make it even more interesting ... moreas a piece of architectural salvage.
