Antique Hand Held Scythe. We found it hanging on the wall as a decor item in an enclosed. Garden porch at an estate sale. It's not marked for maker or age, my best guess is that it dates to around 1930. Wooden handle. The blade is held to the metal curved part by 2 rivets. The blade is about 12" long, it weighs 1 pound. Condition: A lot of wear on the wood handle; splits. Scrapes a few little paint spots. All metal parts are covered in rust. No dings on the blade, all the parts are tight. All questions are welcomed. It has some surface rust but is in good condition. There are no nicks in the blade. The handle part is made of wood and is painted black. The wood part is 4.5” long with a 1” diameter. The arm length including the wood handle is 10” long. Buyer to pay shipping and handling charges. Vintage Primitive HAND GARDEN TOOL ~ Sythe / SICKLE / Scythe ~ Wood Handle
I believe this O'l Timer has done his time in the field and is ready for a nice retirement home! This auction is for a vintage Hand Sickle/ Scythe Garden/ Yard Tool. This is obviously from many many years ago. I don't find a manufacturer mark on it but know it was made in the USA. I have not done any cleaning on this; it is in" As found" condition. When I sell these old hand tools I normally say something like" Still very serviceable" But in this fellow's case, I think he has earned Retirement status and belongs on a wall as a decoration. His blade is loose as one screw has backed out some. His handle is rough and cracked. And the ferrule at the top of the handle is loose( 5th picture) the last 2 pictures show it put loosely back in place. Now his blade is still fairly sharp; it has some surface rust. I really ... morethink if you wanted to give him a few more swings. He'd do the job- but let's let him finish his years in retirement.
