ANTIQUE BRICK FROM THE DUCK CREEK BRICK COMPANY DUCK CREEK.WISCONSIN VERY GOOD Accession Number: 7.1984.10 Published Date: 11/29/2006"Workers at an unidentified brickyard pose for the camera. Ca. 1900. After a fire in 1853 that gutted a large portion of Green Bay's downtown, and later, the 1871 Peshtigo fire that killed approximately 2000 people, the use of brick and stone in building became more common. Stone was locally available from"the Ledge" as well as from fields, Brick, however, was easier to obtain and useful for construction because much of the region had an underlay of suitable clay for bricks. Early manufacturing required the bricks to be made by hand. Fresh clay was thrown into a hole, soaked in water, and then shoveled into a pugmill where it was mixed with more water until it became smooth. As the clay was ... moremixed, it was also forced to the bottom of the pugmill and slowly squeezed through a small hole in the bottom of the box. It was then rolled in sand and pressed into a wooden mold. When the mold was filled with four to eight bricks it was emptied onto a board where the clay bricks air-dried for several weeks. Once dry thousands of bricks were placed in wood kilns where they were fired for more than a week. When the steam engine began to be used for brick making near the turn of the century, the availability of more sophisticated machinery allowed increased production. Unfortunately, as wood became less readily available, many of the smaller brickyards closed. Increased use of concrete block also provided competition for the brick industry in the 1920s. The brick in this acution was found along the shore of the Hudson River near the Riverdale Metro North startion(Spuyten Duyvil) in The Bronx NY. According to a brick collecting website. Hutton Bricks were used in building the original Yankee Stadium in 1923. I am not claiming this brick came from Yankee Stadium. I just know I found it in The Bronx. Antique Brick from the JJJ Brick Company founded in the late 1800's VERY RARE! From a brick collecting website. I found teh following information. In the late 1800s. Juan Jacinto Jova(J J J) came from Cuba to New York City as a sugar broker, then moved up the Hudson River to. Where he had hoped to raise sugar cane. When that venture failed, he built a brick plant. Jova bought a large Greek revival granite mansion(Danskammer) from David Maitland Armstrong(who ran the ARROW Brick Co. then tore it down to get the clay on which it stood. The grand pillars that supported the veranda of the house now stand in the sculpture garden of the in Cornwall-on-Hudson. N.Y. The brick in this acution was found along the shore of the Long Island Sound near City Island. Bronx NY

NY(which is now known as) Daniel is thought to have moved to Newburgh. NY, sometime between 1810 and 1817, due to the fact that his wife was from there. One of his sons was Thomas Aldridge born in 1818 and died August. 1892. Thomas bought a farm near Fishkill Landing, NY in the fall of 1853 which later became the'ABC' Aldridge Brothers& Company) Brickyard in Dutchess Junction, NY. This specific brick was found on a beach in NYC a few weeks ago. Likely washed ashore from hurricane Sandy
