This wonderful VERY RARE vintage Authentic ... moreDisneyland SOLID CAST IRON PARK BENCH that was made on the lot and placed when Disneyland first opened in 1955. It wasnt realized until time for the first MAIN STREET PARADE how heavy the benches were for the workers to remove and set aside to make way for the parade. It only took the one time for the crew to realize this problem. So the heavy cast iron benches were put away and used for prototype for much lighter benches. This bench has provenance to it as you can see in the following information that is included. Here is what I know to be true: This Disney park bench came from the estate of Richard(Dick) Pfahler who was one of Walt Disney's earliest employees.You can look this info up) At the time of Richard's hire. Walt's studio was on Hyperion in Hollywood. Richard retired from Walt Disney Productions in 1974. Upon Dick's retirement. Disneyland presented him with 2 of these cast iron original benches. Upon Richards passing the Disneyland benches were left to his daughter Melinda Pfahler Schussele of Scottsdale Az. Who forwarded all this info to me to share in the listing. Melinda was also a long time employee of Disney as well. Melinda gave one of the benches to friends in California(where it still remains) when she moved to Arizona and this is the one she kept which I am listing. It has all original wood slats from 1955 and has been kept in very nice original condition. The bench measures at least 5 foot in length and is about 2.5 ft in width and weighs at least 500 lbs(just guessing) The bench will be on local pick up only or buyer can arrange shipping. Found in shed on family property. The legs are MIA. We searched every nook and cranny! The piece measures 42" wide and is in okay shape. One section of the seat back was painted silver for some reason. On same silver section, the tab is broken off where you bolt the section to the one next to it. If you're a welder, this could be an easy fix. Stored in a shed that hasn't been touched for nearly 40 years. Needs some restoration and legs to give it new life! Ask all questions prior to bidding. Vintage Ornate Cast Iron Bench Legs / Ends -Victorian-Gothic-w/ Lions Head
This is not a newer light weight set of bench legs. This pair weighs 50lbs of pure cast iron. I used to refinish these and paint them before selling them. I have learned since, that some buyers like the patina in it's natural look. These have only minor surface rust and in great condition as is or ready for you to refinish them. Lots of designs on these legs and far from just being plain. I like them both ways but I prefer them when they are refinished and some of the details highlighted with a different color than black. I've also done these in forest green and John Deere green. I don't think it matters what colors you use, they just don't make them like these anymore. The set I done and put on my porch, I used composite wood, no worries about it rotting and hit it with the pressure washer once a year and it looks new again. ... moreThe tallest part stands 28" from the ground and the feet on the legs are 21" apart, makes for a very sturdy bench. The last pic shows the thickness of the armrest, another way of knowing if the set is modern or not, those will always be less than 1" thick on newer ones. Almost impossible to date these, this design has been used since the turn of the century and very few are ever marked. The support strap is still attached, these are very easy to straighten and shape however you need them to be. I have another set of these listed with a little different look than this set. Set of 2 Vintage Victorian Bench Ends Bench ends stand approximately 28" tall and 21" wide from foot to foot. Very ornate design. A lions head in a shield like design with stars and floral patterns snaking throughout the bench. Beautiful piece. I was thinking of restoring this but instead I am going to let the buyer decide how they would like to refinish it. I almost like it the way it is now best. These are some heavy duty bench ends, made of cast iron and very heavy. There are some signs of surface rust. Mainly on the backside of the bench ends where the screws are. The front has little to no rust at all. Please zoom in on the photos to get the best idea.
