This folder measures approximately 22 in. by 34 in. when opened out flat. No date that I can see. But Hughes Airport is on it(opened in 1940, apparently) Santa Monica Airport is still called Clover Field, LAX is called Mines Field, the Pacific Electric Railway is there, and Marina del Rey is undeveloped. vintage 1928 map of San Jose, California by Thomas Bros
Original 1928 Thomas Bros map of San Jose. Santa Clara& vicinity on one side and Thomas Bros highway map of Santa Clara county on the other side. Map is in good condition with 10-A orig written in red and a blue 7 written in the upper right corner of the San Jose side. There is piece missing on the upper left corner of the San Jose side and a couple more small tears on the outside of the map. No tears or browning on the inside. I inherited several hundred maps. Lithographs and blue prints from my uncle who was in the blue print business in Palo Alto, California in the 1970's. His collection of maps mostly all have red(and blue) reference numbers for filing written on them so my best guess is that they were used as reference maps for newer maps and just general infomation for the business. I will slowly be listing the collection most ... moreof which pertain to California and in particular the San Francisco and Stanford(Palo Alto) areas. I have sold some items through Pacific Books Auction gallery that were well received so my feeling is these are very collectable.

Map of Reno. Nevada by Thomas Bros. from 1930 with lots of town information about Reno during that time. Map is in ok shape with some tape on it and a red 8 A in the right upper corner. Santa Barbara to the border of Mexico, has wood to hold at both ends. The map is acceptable, needs reinforcement. I do know this has been hanging around my garage for years, it is in good condition with a few small rips, one needed reinforcement a long time ago, it has a film over most of the map some of the film has aged away. a few areas that someone marked with a black marking pen.The map is very detailed with on and off ramp Index. Close ups of the major counties, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, San Diego. 1938 Thomas Brothers Bros laminated map San Francisco Oakland Berkeley Alameda. This map has San Francisco on one side. And Oakland/Berkeley/Alameda/San Leandro/ Piedmont. Albany/Emeryville on the reverse. The Oakland side shows the East Shore Highway as being under construction. This was a WPA project that was completed in the late 1930s. The lamination is starting to peel at several places on the edges and corners. It is about 4.5 x 7.25 inches when folded. It opens to about 34 x 21.75 inches. There is some staining to the map at several places on the edges- especially at creases where dirt has worked its way under the lamination. It looks to me like this map was laminated after being purchased. Although it looks to be professionally done. There's some waviness at the top left corner of the San Francisco side. And the blue dye has seeped ... morethrough to the top right of the Oakland side and there's a faint damp stain there as well. inkfrog terapeak.
